Helping an autistic child sleep soundly through the night can be challenging for many families. Difficulties with falling asleep, staying asleep, or getting enough rest are very common, so you and your child are certainly not alone.

These sleep issues can stem from differences in melatonin production, sensory sensitivities, or co-occurring conditions such as ADHD or epilepsy, which means there is rarely one single cause.

Check out our latest post for practical tips and insights on supporting better sleep.

It is important to understand the nature of ADHD, and the challenges it can bring, for a range of people, including women, girls and marginalised groups. While many ADHD symptoms are common across groups, some have previously been under-recognised. For many, a later-in-life diagnosis can offer clarity, help them understand themselves and allow them to access the right support.

Gaming can be a source of joy, connection, and achievement. It can also feel overwhelming or difficult to step away from at times.

As the nights draw in, we are opening up conversations about how gaming can support men’s mental health, and when it might be time to pause and reflect.

How does gaming fit into your life?

There are three main types of ADHD, and understanding which one fits your experience can make a real difference.

The three types are inattentive, hyperactive and impulsive, and combined. Each can look different from person to person, but all are valid experiences of ADHD. Recognising these differences helps ensure the right support is in place.

Recovery from autistic burnout is slow and non-linear. A short break is rarely enough. For many people, it can take weeks or months to rebuild energy, depending on the level of exhaustion and persistence of environmental stressors.

Autistic burnout is unlikely to ease if the same triggers remain. Reassessing work, social demands, and daily routines can help ensure they better support your strengths and needs.

Stimming plays an important role in mental health, helping neurodivergent people meet their sensory needs and support emotional and sensory regulation.

Being free to stim is important for wellbeing. Suppressing can contribute to feelings of overload, and autistic meltdowns and shutdowns.

Autistic joy is a deeply felt happiness that many autistic people experience when they are fully engaged with what matters most to them.

It might be found in special interests, sensory experiences, or moments of connection. Everyone experiences autistic joy in their own unique way.

How do you or your loved ones experience autistic joy? We’d love to hear in the comments.

Men’s mental health matters not just in November, but every day of the year.

Men’s Mental Health Month helps raise awareness, but conversations about wellbeing should continue all year round.

If you’re concerned about your own mental health or worried about someone else, reach out and talk to someone you trust, such as a friend, colleague, GP or mental health professional.

Free and confidential support is also available from Samaritans (116 123), Mind, and CALM.

Together, we can break the stigma and make it okay to talk.
