Rockley Photonics

Rockley Photonics Rockley has developed a new class of non-invasive biosensing that could shape the future of digital

At Rockley, we believe that our unique biosensing platform could be a game-changer for personal health management, transform healthcare, and improve people’s lives around the globe. By helping enable real-time insights, Rockley is well-positioned to revolutionize the way we manage our health and well-being for decades to come. From wearable biosensing wristbands, chipsets, and algorithms to cloud-based analytics and AI, our end-to-end biomarker sensing platform includes a range of hardware and software solutions that enable the non-invasive, continuous, and real-time monitoring of multiple biomarkers. Leveraging our world-class expertise in silicon photonics, we have miniaturized the capabilities of lab spectrometer into a compact form that can be integrated into wearable consumer devices and medical monitoring systems. This revolutionary breakthrough should enable three critical capabilities:

• Detecting and measuring multiple biomarkers non-invasively with a single device
• Monitoring biomarkers on a routine, round-the-clock, near real-time basis
• Creating new opportunities to enhance multiple clinical workflows

In addition to monitoring individual biomarkers, understanding how these biomarkers interact with each other and with other factors is equally critical. Our analytics and AI have the potential to identify patterns for individual biomarkers and deliver a holistic assessment of a person’s overall health and well-being. Continuous health monitoring is the next evolution for medical device manufacturers and the healthcare industry. Rockley’s ability to deliver real-time insights could have a transformative impact on personal health and well-being — from day-to-day health management to the early detection of diseases. Armed with these insights, consumers could make better-informed decisions about their health and lifestyle, and healthcare providers could make better-informed decisions for their patients.

The Financial Times recently published an interesting article ( ) on the semiconductor boom — and whether the UK has missed its chance to be a player. This industry is becoming increasingly important as geopolitical uncertainty hangs over seemingly everything, causing the government to rethink its approach to protecting the domestic chip industry at a time of growing economic nationalism.

"Let's not look in the rear-view mirror," says CEO Andrew Rickman, who recently appeared before a parliamentary committee in the UK. "What is coming up next? From my perspective in the field of photonics... the future is extraordinary in things like quantum computing.”

Big milestone today as we continue expanding our ‘Powered by Rockley' presence in devices.

We are delighted to sign a supply agreement with a global technology provider outlining its initial purchase commitment for 2023 — and to receive the first commercial purchase order for our biomarker sensing wristband. The Bioptx™ band included in this order will employ our biosensing technology, a complete end-to-end solution for the non-invasive, continuous, and near-real-time monitoring of multiple biomarkers. The initial units are expected to ship in Q4 2022, which could put Rockley’s ground-breaking technology on the wrists of end-users by the end of 2022.

Thanks to everyone on the team who has worked hard to make this important step happen!

It’s easy to say, “stay hydrated,” but maintaining healthy and mindful hydration habits can be hard. Most people who are not high-performance athletes don’t have access to the tools or analytics necessary to measure their hydration level on a routine basis. They therefore may not be able to understand whether their hydration habits are adequate to optimize their health and well-being. Indeed, other than fluid analysis, only a few indicators of hydration level are available to the general population.

Jennifer Kukral, upstream marketing physiologist at Rockley Photonics, outlines the importance of hydration measurement via wearable devices in this Med-Tech Innovation article: https://www.med-technews.com/medtech-insights/digital-in-healthcare-insights/how-wearables-can-help-monitor-your-hydration/

Looking for some weekend reading or listening? Every month we'll share with you a recommendation from one of the Rockley team. We're a diverse bunch, so we hope to cover lots of ground — with a little something for everyone.

This month's recommendation is “The Four Agreements,” a Toltec Wisdom Book by Don Miguel Ruiz.

“Thousands of years ago, the Toltec were known throughout southern Mexico as ‘women and men of knowledge’ . . . scientists and artists who formed a society to explore and conserve the spiritual knowledge and practices of the ancient ones.” The agreements act as a code of conduct that can transform us as human beings and how we relate to one another no matter where we are.

The Agreements are:

• Be Impeccable With Your Word: Words are powerful, be they negative or positive about yourself or others

• Don’t Take Anything Personally: Seek immunity from the opinions and actions of others

• Don’t Make Assumptions: Communicate clearly

• Always Do Your Best: Under any circumstance (changes often), always do your best

It’s a small book that can be easily read over a weekend! Let us know what you think in the comments below.
