Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust

Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust We provide mental health and community services in Oxfordshire & mental health services in Buckinghamshire

Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust provides physical and mental health and social care with the aim of improving the health and wellbeing of all our patients and their families. We currently run eight community hospitals in Oxfordshire, as well as providing mental health services in Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and elsewhere. We also work in partnership with others such as GPs, local universities, local authorities and voluntary organisations. If you or someone you care for needs to be admitted to hospital your care will be co-ordinated by a team of people and as close to home as possible. Our aim is always to work with you and your family to get you home as soon as you are well enough and continue to support you there.

We know that looking after someone with dementia can be challenging, and carers can often find themselves feeling stressed, isolated, down, and worried. The good news is that help is available.

Oxfordshire Talking Therapies is running a free online group designed to support people caring for someone with dementia. The group uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy strategies which are evidence-based and designed to support carers in their ability to deal with stress, cope with difficult thoughts and emotions, and understand dementia and their reaction to it.

If you are a carer for someone who has a diagnosis of dementia and are looking for ways to manage stress and care more effectively for your relative or friend this group may be for you.

If you would like to know more, please contact Oxfordshire Talking Therapies directly by visiting our website - https://www.oxfordhealth.nhs.uk/oxon-talking-therapies/ or calling on 01865 901222. Just let us know you are interested in the CBT for Carers of People with Dementia group.

The Improving Postpartum Outcomes of Severe Mental Illnesses in Ethnically Diverse Mothers (POSIE) project is a collaboration between several UK universities, including the University of Oxford, NHS Trusts and charities.

It aims to identify practical ways to improve care for mothers experiencing serious mental illnesses such as severe depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and psychosis.

Are you a young person aged 15–18 in Oxfordshire who’s completed treatment for or but still struggling?

The ATTEND research trial, led by Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, the University of Oxford, and the University of Cambridge, is testing a new therapy, Mindfulness for Adolescents and Carers (MAC).

This innovative approach helps young people manage low mood and supports parents/carers in understanding and reinforcing these techniques.

If you're between services or seeking extra support beyond CAMHS or school, this could be for you.

At Oxford Health we’re proud to join Carers UK and organisations from across the country in raising awareness of the rights, entitlements and wider support available for unpaid carers. This includes our Oxford Health staff who are working carers who are juggling supporting someone alongside working.

This year’s theme ‘Know your rights, use your rights’ is all about making sure more carers understand their entitlements and feel confident to use them. We’re encouraging everyone to get involved and to find out how carers rights can help you to:

✔ Access support

✔ Juggle care and work

✔ Look after your health and wellbeing

✔ When the person you care for is coming out of hospital

Know your rights, use your rights

As a carer, knowing your rights empowers you with information about what you’re entitled to. This helps you feel confident asking for what you need, as well as challenging things when your rights are not being met – whether that be in the workplace or education, in accessing health or social care, or when interacting with other professionals or at home. These right are;

The right to unpaid Carer’s Leave
The right to request flexible working
The right to ask your GP practice to identify you as a carer
The right (and choice) to request a free flu jab
Protection against discrimination or harassment
Requesting a carer’s assessment
Being consulted when the person you care for is discharged from hospital

Check out the Carers Rights UK website for loads of help, support and advice.
