They're right, a little knowledge makes a big difference.
That's why we teach all our I.M.P.S. pupils CPR and how to use a defibrillator, as well as a range of basic first aid skills.

The clock is ticking in a cardiac arrest. Of the 40,000 resuscitation attempts carried out by emergency services in the UK each year, fewer than 10% survive.

But we can improve this; learn CPR, know where your nearest defibrillator is, and be ready to act in an emergency. A little knowledge makes a big difference!

With the warmer weather returning to the UK this week, we will probably be spending more time outside or near water.
The Child Accident Prevention Trust have produced a summer safety pack. This highlights common safety concerns you should be looking out for to ensure you and your family have a safe and happy summer.
You can download yours here...
https://capt.org.uk/resources/summer-safety-display-pack/

Whilst the warm summer weather brings lots of opportunities for fun in the sun there are also additional hazards for our little people. Simply download, print and display these colourful posters in your setting to help families stay safe this summer.

It was a great privilege to be invited to present at the Paediatric Trauma National Network Meeting last week.

The focus of the conference was injury prevention so we had plenty to talk about.

I.M.P.S. was the only injury prevention programme for children there, so it was great to share our story as well as listen to other amazing charities, schemes and experts.

Many thanks to Jess, Amber, Giles, Anna and the Major trauma service at BRHC for organising a great event.

The time has come for the wonderful Lynn to retire.
Lynn has been managing I.M.P.S. since the beginning, she piloted the programme back in 1995 and has been at the helm ever since.
Her career in healthcare spans an impressive 47 years at the John Radcliffe Hospital, at first as a nurse and then as a driving force in injury prevention education.
Through I.M.P.S., Lynn has helped shape a generation of safety-conscious individuals, many of whom will carry these vital skills throughout their lives.
Lynn, thank you for everything. You are an amazing manager, colleague and friend. We wish you a wonderful and fulfilling retirement - you have truly left a legacy that will continue to inspire for years to come.
We will miss you.
Here she is on her last commute home 🥰

In just 34 days our London Marathon team will be facing a huge challenge.

Here's Amy, she is running for I.M.P.S. this year and ran her longest distance yesterday in Milton Keynes.

She is on track with her training and is doing a great job with her fundraising, GO AMY!

Our trainers have received their new equipment bags. The old ones were definitely in need of replacing.
The whole team now have branded rucksacks and wheeled bags to make it much easier to transport and store everything they need for an I.M.P.S. session.
Tracy is really pleased with hers 🙂

As the weather starts to get warmer it will be great to open windows and balcony doors and let the fresh air in. But please remember that a small child’s head is heavy compared to their body. That means they can easily topple. Plus, they have no real understanding of danger. So,

🪟 Keep low furniture away from open windows so that children can’t climb up and fall out – even on the ground floor
🪟 It’s a good idea to install window catches (to limit how far they can open) and locks if you can
🪟 If you opt for a lock keep the keys somewhere you can find them in case there’s a fire and you need to get out

Injury Minimizion Programme for Schools. I.M.P.S.

Welcome to the official page for The Injury Minimization Programme for Schools (we call it I.M.P.S.) We empower the 10 & 11 year olds of Oxfordshire to take responsibility for the risks they take. We then equip them with the skills to cope in an emergency situation. The children learn basic life support, how to put someone in the recovery position, how to use a defibrillator and how to resuscitate someone. They also learn first aid and have a tour of the emergency department. Have a look here to find out more about what happens during an I.M.P.S. visit. https://tinyurl.com/impsvisit

We teach over 5000 Oxfordshire young people every year from 80% of the state primary schools in the county. Many of our ex IMPS pupils have used their skills to help in the event of an emergency and quite a few of them have chosen to work at the Oxford University Hospitals!

Why not have a look at our fundraising website www.justgiving.com/fundraising/impsoxford A donation of £16.50 is enough to fund a course for one child to learn emergency life skills including how to use a defibrillator and how to put someone in the recovery position.

A birthday fundraiser that raises just £50 would help fund an I.M.P.S. training session for 3 children.
