Such a beautiful pose! πŸ™

The practice of yoga gives a clear sense of measure and proportion. In terms of our bodies, this means that we are learning to focus on our most important instrument and to achieve the greatest resonance and harmony from it. With tireless patience, we refine and enliven each cell of the body as we attack every day to unlock and revitalize the otherwise idle abilities, condemned to congealment.

Yehudi Menuhin in the preface of B.K.S. Iyengar, Light on Yoga,

Happy Birthday Yehudi Menuhin! Today would have been the 106th birthday of the inspirational violinist and conductor.
He famously conducted the opening of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony standing on his head while giving directions to the orchestra with his feet.

A chance encounter - On a visit to his osteopath Menuhin spotted a book about yoga in the waiting room and was intrigued by the subject. He was in India a year later, in 1952 as a guest of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister, when he mentioned the book and was introduced to BKS Iyengar. Their first meeting was intended to be brief but turned into a three and a half hour session. Both masters in their chosen fields, their enduring 50 year friendship was transformative for each of them.

The image of Yehudi Menuhin was reproduced courtesy of the Menuhin Center Saanen. The above is a snipet from the IYL Blog Post: Yehudi Menuhin and BKS Iyengar’s transformative friendship 22/03/2016
