Calcium is a key part of your diet and is important for the health of your teeth and bones. It also helps the heart, brain, and muscles to function and helps in blood clotting.

After bariatric surgery you will be advised to take a calcium and vitamin D supplement to ensure you are having enough calcium. These are available in liquids, powders, tablets and soft chewable forms and are often combined with a vitamin D supplement to help absorption of the calcium into the bones.

It is important to take the recommended dosage to prevent long-term health problems which is why our dieticians are on hand to help you after your surgery and to ensure you are getting enough calcium in your diet.

Your diet will change dramatically after you've had bariatric surgery, if you want to maximise the benefits of your surgery, it is important that you follow post operative guidance.

After surgery, you will need to avoid eating solid food for around 8 weeks and gradually increasing textures of food from liquid in week 1 & 2 to soft foods in 5-8.

Your dietician will assist in diet planning to ensure you hit your weight loss goals. http://bit.ly/oxbariatriccontact

The roots of obesity run deep, and the societal impacts deeper still. This 4th March we’re supporting and organisations around the world to break the cycle of shame and blame.

Obesity is a chronic disease that affects more than 650 million adults. It is often misperceived by many as a simple lifestyle choice. But below the surface, we know that the roots of obesity are vast and deep. Be a force for change and get involved: www.worldobesityday.org.
