I recently had the pleasure of visiting 國立中山大學 National Sun Yat-sen University(NSYSU)College of Medicine, where I gave a talk on how non-human primate (NHP) neuroscience research can inform translational approaches to neuropsychiatric treatment.
This visit was especially meaningful given NSYSU’s unique connection to the Formosan macaque (Macaca cyclopis)—the primate species indigenous to Taiwan, also commonly referred to as the Taiwanese macaque. Discussing macaque neuroscience in a place where these animals are part of the local ecosystem highlighted the importance of ethically grounded, biologically relevant primate research for advancing brain and mental health science.
I am very grateful to the faculty and researchers at NSYSU for their warm welcome and for generously sharing their vision in medical teaching and research. The opportunity to exchange ideas across basic neuroscience, clinical translation, and education was truly inspiring.
