We have all been there -craving carbs because we have low energy and they are often easy. However, a balanced diet is essential to helping us maximise our energy and keep our body and brain healthy.
Protein is a building block for our body and brain and is essential to support our health and wellbeing. These days, we do not have to spend hours slaving over a hot stove. There are some "instant and low prep protein food that we can grab instead of the biscuits or toast. We could even slow cook a protein rich meat meal or sling a chicken in the air fryer.
One of my faves is to get a tin of chickpeas and bake or air fry them with a spice mix. Easy peasy! This can be used as a stand alone snack or sprinkled onto salads, soups, stews, curries. Be careful...they can become addictive!

What are your protein hacks?
If you are still struggling, remember, The Chrysalis Effect has nutritionists who specialise in maximising your energy levels. The extra support can be a good investments helping you to develop a tailored plan and take some of the brain work out of things
We would love to know

Optimism is a mental attitude characterized by hope, confidence, and the tendency to expect favorable outcomes, even in challenging situations. It involves viewing setbacks as temporary, learning from failures, and focusing on positive aspects, which can improve physical/mental health, reduce stress, and increase confidence, resiliance amd ability to cope.

Does it feel hard to be optimistic right now? We know how you feel and how difficult it can be, when you are faced with problems, negitivity and worry.

Thats why at the Chrysalis Effect we run live peer support sessions, workshops run by experts and have a positive social media members only page, alongside our program. This means you can develop tools and have support to retain hope along every step of the way

You do not have to feel alone

What are you grateful for?
A daily dose of positivity can help to rewire your brain making you feel better and able to tackle lifes challenges.

As well as thinking about what you are grateful for, try to think about why you are grateful for it, or think of a specific example. By being specific when focusing on gratitude you are reinforcing these thoughts and creating more positive, lasting images and feelings.

For example, "Today, I am grateful for my husband bringing me a cup of tea in bed this morning and taking the time to talk to me about my day. It made me feel loved and valued"

Why don't you try giving it a go and letting us know if you notice the changes?

It is absolutely understandable and normal to have days where you struggle to see the positive when you have a chronic illness that leaves you in bed or not able to do the things you want to do.

At times like these, it can be helpful reframe your thoughts. For example you could reflect on the following:-
🌦️What has your illness taught you -is there one positive thing?
🌦️Thoughts are not always facts
🌦️Not every thought needs your attention
🌦️Is there another way to see this?
🌦️Thoughts can change and pass.
🌦️Not everything that is urgent needs to be done now.
🌦️It's OK if you are not able to think of anything -try writing things down to help process thoughts, use somatic techniques to calm your nervous system and try again later

With practice, reframing your thoughts regularly, will change the way you think and feel. What do you do when you are struggling with your thoughts

Just kind a little reminder today. If you are feeling low on energy or in pain, there may be one tiny thing that you can do to make yourself feel better. It is worth having a list of things for your toolbox for days when you are not feeling your best, so save you thinking energy.

This could look like
❤ doing a 5 minute meditation
❤ Sitting in a sunny window
❤ Stroking a pet
❤ Reflecting on 3 things that you are grateful for
❤ looking at or taking a beautiful photo or picture

These small things really do add up and make a difference to how you feel
What would you do?

This beautiful quince caught my eye when walking the other day. I had to stop and take a moment to look, smell and listen to the birds and bees. It gave me a great sense of awe, calm and wonder.

When was the last time you took a moment to yourself to stop and take notice of the things around you and how it made you you feel?

When we are unwell, we can understandably get so caught up in this. We can forget to show ourselves love and compassion. I know this was certainly true when I was unwell. I was very harsh on myself, focusing very much on fighting the Long Covid. Unsurprisingly, this did not work.

Love and compassion have been shown to help to calm the nervous system, which promotes, rest, recovery and digest, in turn helping improve the immune system function.

Showing yourself compassion can be small moments and gestures integrated into your routine where you gently give yourself permission to take time out or do something for you.

What things can you do today?

🌱 World Gardening Day 🌱

Today is a beautiful reminder that healing doesn’t always happen indoors.

At The Chrysalis Effect, we gently encourage reconnecting with nature as part of the recovery journey from M.E., CFS, and fibromyalgia.

That might look like:
🌿 Sitting in the garden with a cup of tea
🌼 Planting a few seeds or tending to a pot
☀️ Feeling the sun on your face for a few quiet minutes
🍃 Noticing the small changes happening in nature around you

Nature moves at its own pace — and it reminds us that we can too.

Growth doesn’t have to be rushed.
Healing doesn’t have to be forced.

Sometimes, the most powerful thing you can do is simply step outside, breathe, and be 🌿We have an 'outdoors for wellbeing' group as part of our online recovery pathway. Will you get out in nature today? Even if only for a few minutes, try it, and let us know how you get on in the comments.
