Yes, it is that time of the year when we need to keep our immune system healthy.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a powerful treatment and the results are outstanding.

If you are prone to chest infections and long drawn out colds lasting for weeks, then you might want to try MLD. It won't stop you from having infections but it will make your immune system work harder and as a result you will have a milder version of illness.
You should consider treatment when you are well or when you have recovered.

Lymphoedema is a chronic and progressive condition affecting millions of people around the world. It is caused by a malfunction of the lymphatic system, meaning the system struggles to remove excess fluid, bacteria and other waste products from the body.

This leads to a build up of fluid, particularly around your arms and legs resulting in pain, discomfort, swelling and significantly impacts the quality of life.

Lymphoedema is defined by either Primary or Secondary, meaning you can have it from birth or as a genetic, congenital abnormality or following surgery such as breast cancer where around 20% of patients present with lymphoedema.

Despite these statistics, many are still unaware of this condition and its effects, including the medical profession.

Recent research includes Fluoroscopy Guided studies where we can see the development of lymphatic flow and treat the patient accordingly.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage can significantly improve lymphatic flow and reduce swelling, pain and discomfort. It is not a “massage style” that is often advertised on social media. It is a specific technique following the direction of lymphatic pathways with gentle repetitive handmovements.

As therapists, we often perceive the clients emotion under our hands.

But what if your hands communicate your emotion into the client’s body?

In a study, 2 people were separated by a barrier so they couldn’t see each other but, there was a space where one individual could put their hand through to touch the arm of the other individual.

One person put their hand through the space and had to try and convey the emotions of either gratitude, anger, love or fear. They only had a few seconds to communicate the emotion.

Over 50% of the time, the individual being touched correctly guessed the emotion.

In our treatments, we need to try and leave all our stresses and anxieties outside the treatment room door so that we can focus appropriate and caring touch to all our clients.
