🥊Torquay’s Ben Andrews Headlines ‘Valentine’s Day Massacre’ with Midlands Title in Sight .
Unbeaten light heavyweight sensation Ben Andrews is set to headline a stacked card at the Torquay Riviera International Centre on February 14th, and the stakes have never been higher for the local favorite. Following the news that the Midlands Area Light Heavyweight title has been vacated, the 26-year-old is officially next in line for a shot at the belt, making his upcoming appearance at BCB Promotions' Valentine's Day Massacre a crucial stepping stone.
Andrews enters this bout following a gritty, character-defining victory over Bahadur Karami in Birmingham. Despite battling a severe chest infection that sapped his energy during that contest, Andrews dug deep to maintain his perfect professional record.
“Fitness is so important in boxing,” said Andrews. “It’s key, and it is something that has always been a strength, so to get through the fight with the lack of energy I had was character building. It was my hardest fight physically, and I had to keep a positive mindset throughout, and I got the win.”
Preparation for the Valentine’s Day clash has been much better. To ensure he is in peak condition, Andrews has been sparring with top-tier talent, including Commonwealth Games silver medallist Taylor Bevan and Queensbury Promotions signed light heavyweight standout Ben Collins.
“I’ve sparred Ben three or four times now, and they are always good rounds when I come to the BCB gym,” Andrews noted. “Taylor was an experience; we were at the same venue when I won the Tri-Nations, and I knew it would be a hard spar going into it.”
With former champion David Butlin recently stripped of the Midlands Area title, the 175-pound division is wide open. Andrews, a former GB Tri Nations Gold Medallist, has been waiting for his chance and a victory on February 14th would likely secure his first major title fight later this year.
"I love boxing at home; it's easier in so many ways," Andrews said. "But I also know I want to push on, and it’s definitely time now for me to look at my first title fight, and with the Midlands Area belt now vacant, my name has been put forward, and it would be the ideal move for me. I have been talking with my family and friends, and they are all waiting for this, and I know we’ll get a huge turnout.”
The Valentine's Day Massacre features a deep lineup of regional talent beyond the main event. Aaron Bird, the former Celtic champion, looks to bounce back and climb the rankings after a valiant European title challenge. He is joined by Pawel Augustynik and Charlie Ryder, who both look to extend their unbeaten runs. Brandon Fells returns to Devon following a successful professional debut in the Midlands, while the card is rounded out by the highly anticipated professional debut of former amateur standout Kaiden Symons.
Final remaining tickets are priced at £45 for general admission and £85 for VIP. They can be purchased directly from the boxers or by emailing info@bcb-promotions.com.
