If you are in the process of arranging a funeral, there are some questions you should ask:

Where will your loved rest?
Are the funeral directors accredited by SAIF?
Do they have their own premises,staff and vehicles?
What services do they provide ‘in house’?

There’s been a sharp increase in online only companies popping up, who operate by relying entirely on 3rd parties but still charge families “professional fees”. Some of these facades appear to be local through clever marketing techniques but operate from residential addresses.

There are so many things involved with providing excellent funeral arrangements, from the staff, specialist vehicles, industry standard mortuary and chapel of rest equipment and facilities to providing a wide range of products and memorial items, coffin styles, media systems, printing and stationary, IT and other online customer services.

Remember, not all funeral directors are the same. We always welcome you to come and see our facilities and discuss how we can offer the very best arrangements with complete control over the important services - we don’t rely on others to look after the deceased or provide the vehicles and staff.

International Women’s Day celebrates the role of women in all walks of life.

Historically a male dominated industry, we are very proud to have three amazing women in our funeral directing team - Vanessa Loram, Elaine Harrison and Kim Palmer - who all look after local families throughout the funeral arrangements and on the day itself.

We also have two amazing administrators in Ellen and Cat who make sure things run smoothly with all administrative matters, accounts and donation processing.

Direct Cremation? Don't use a national company...

There are many national companies that provide this type of service, many of which come down from 'up country' in a commercial van and collect multiple deceased persons on mass, as it makes them more money.

We don't agree with this practice, as it is not only undignified but also causes deceased to be left in Hospital mortuaries for days, sometimes weeks, unbeknown to their loved ones.

At Stockman & Loram, our Direct Cremation option still benefits from the same care and respect that we are renowned for. We look after the deceased in our local Chapels of Rest in Brixham and Paignton and the cremation takes place at a local Crematorium, rather than being taken anywhere in the country.

A beautiful combination of our unvarnished pine coffin with exquisite flowers from for a much loved lady recently. The unvarnished rustic style coffin with wooden handles created a much softer atmosphere as the family gathered to share memories and reflect on a very long life, well lived.

As a sponsor (as well as Seb & Dom playing) of Babbacombe Cricket Club we are sharing their crowdfunding page to raise funds for a new roof on the pavilion, which is the hub of the club both in terms of cricket and also revenue from the bar etc.

Any support is greatly appreciated, the club have 3 senior teams and a thriving junior cricket section, and are a real focal point of the community.

It’s always nice to have a brief from families - but in this instance the brief was all pre planned by the lady that had passed away. She wanted a willow coffin with a simple but beautiful Ivy and Daisy garland. She’d also chosen her music, hymns, bible readings and even written out a list of thank-yous to her family and friends.

The service took place in our private Service Chapel, so there was no time pressure unlike at the Crematorium. The garland was provided by the very talented who is one of the amazing local florists we work with regularly. The coffin is handcrafted by

We had a fantastic time yesterday evening Go-Karting in the Rowcroft Hospice Le Mans style race. It was great fun and hopefully everyone enjoyed it whilst raising some money for the amazing team at Rowcroft.
