We are looking to begin with a new service within the clinic that assesses not only measuring (ABPI) for potential vascular disease but is also able to screen for arterial fibrillation and follows on from some of the work that our new podiatrist Sarah Levio has been involved in!

Are you suffering from a ganglion cyst?

Ganglion cysts are fluid-filled lumps that can cause discomfort or pressure and can be found on various locations upon the foot and ankle.

Our approach here at the foot clinic include:

Evaluation and diagnosis to confirm the cyst via clinical evalution and diagnostic ultrasound.

Non-surgical options like aspiration can be performed with the use of ultrasound within the clinic.

Referral onwards can be made if aspiration is not possible with view to having a surgical opinion.

Do you suffer with foot pain?

We are now offering a Graduate Musculoskeletal Pain Clinic within the foot clinic.

This assessment is performed by our new graduate Podiatrist Emma Wood. She will intend to identify the cause of your specific foot pain or condition and provide you with diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. You will be provided with a plan and appropriate advice for your rehabilitation which may include orthotics, stretching and appropriate footwear advice. This assessment DOES NOT include DIAGNOSTIC ULTRASOUND within the appointment.

PLEASE BOOK the ADVANCED MSK ASSESSMENT if requiring specialist treatment options including the provision of bespoke orthotics, shockwave therapy and ultrasound guided steroid injection.

Apprenticeship schemes are now available at Plymouth University and we would welcome any interest for helping an apprentice become qualified.

I have worked as a podiatrist for 20 years, it has allowed me to see the world and develop skills that I never thought the profession could. It has its bad days like all work but to be involved in an occupation that can significantly help people should never be underestimated.

We have another incoming member of staff and we are really very happy to have Sarah working at the clinic 2 days a week from November. I have worked with her before in the NHS and she is a great person! Not a bad CV either, welcome Sarah.

Sarah Levio RGN, LL.B (Hons), BSc (Hons), MCh.S

Sarah has spent most of her working life within healthcare, training first as an RGN at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital and then working as a staff nurse at the world renowned heart transplant centre at Harefield Hospital. She later studied for a law degree and worked for some years within the cardiovascular medical industry. Fulfilling her desire to return to primary patient care, she then trained as a podiatrist, qualifying in 2011 with a first class honours degree.

Since qualifying, Sarah has worked continually for the NHS as a podiatrist, working with patients with high risk foot problems and a range of medical conditions such as Diabetes and Rheumatoid Arthritis. She has also specialised in nail surgery and providing assessments and treatment plans for new patients.

Sarah is committed to providing a high quality podiatry service to her patients, and as such continues to work part-time within the NHS, ensuring she remains up to date with current medical developments and regulations.

I am a sports massage therapist with 3 years experience and have a master’s degree in osteopathic medicine. I am offering appointments at The Foot Clinic Paignton.

Osteopathy and massage can help with a wide range of conditions. I can offer help to those suffering from conditions including (but not limited to) sports injuries, sciatica, joint pain including arthritic pain, and back, neck and shoulder pain.

These treatment techniques can also help with more generalised stress to aid relaxation and overall wellbeing.

My treatment focuses on creating an individualised patient plan both in appointments and with take home exercises - working towards the goal of your long-term health and wellness from head to toe.

Today was sadly the last day in the clinic for Geoff after almost 20 years. He has very modestly provided us with a portrait of himself dressed as a King. He maybe absent in the future but the picture will allow him to rule over the clinic for many years to come and will let the staff remember him for his comical self! Thank you Geoff and we all wish you a very happy future mate, ciao for now.

A great outcome today for this patient that has a significant leg length difference following hip replacement surgery.

She has been waiting for a referral to the orthotist for 12 months, requiring to walk on her tip toes to compensate for the differing leg length. She gave the clinic a call to see if we could help.

In terms of economy the adjustment to existing footwear has cost 60 pounds and 1 week to resolve. In terms of quality of life the raise will make a huge difference for her. I feel very proud that we can make such big difference to people's life's by providing something as simple and cost effective.
