There is often an assumption that online training is the easier option. In reality, it can demand a great deal from the learner.

Online hypnotherapy training tends to suit people who are thoughtful, self motivated, and able to reflect on their own internal processes. Those who do well are not looking for shortcuts. They are willing to take responsibility for their learning, revisit material carefully, and engage with supervision and feedback seriously.

Maturity and self awareness matter. Hypnotherapy is not simply a set of techniques. It involves understanding yourself as well as understanding others.

Chris maintains the same high standards regardless of format. Online does not mean relaxed expectations. It means structured learning delivered differently, with the same commitment to safe and responsible practice.

Online learning has changed how many people approach professional training. Theory, background knowledge, and structured learning can absolutely be explored remotely, and there is real value in that flexibility.

At the same time, hypnotherapy is not just about what you know. It involves awareness, responsibility, and learning how to respond to real people in real moments. Some of that only develops through presence, observation, and guided feedback from experienced practitioners.

Chris does not take an all or nothing stance on this. Different parts of training require different approaches. The key is understanding what can be learned remotely and what benefits from being in the room with others.

Real confidence in therapeutic work doesn’t come from being told you’re ready. It comes from knowing your limits, understanding your responsibility, and having the skills to work safely within them.

Over the years, Chris has seen the difference between bravado and grounded confidence. Bravado performs well in a classroom. Grounded confidence shows up quietly in real client work, when you know how to pause, reflect, and respond rather than push through uncertainty.

That’s why patience matters in training. Confidence grows through experience, supervision, and self awareness. It’s built session by session, not handed over with a certificate or rushed timetable.

If you’re curious about learning hypnotherapy in a way that prioritises safety, responsibility, and real confidence, you can explore Chris’s approach here:

Hypnotherapy isn’t something you collect like a certificate and move on from. The way you’re trained shapes how you think, how you respond under pressure, and how safe the people you work with feel in your presence.

Over the years, I’ve seen many different training routes. Some focus on getting people through quickly. Others focus on helping students truly understand what they’re doing and why it matters. The difference shows up later, when you’re sitting with a real person, not a practice partner, and responsibility is no longer theoretical.

Depth matters because confidence doesn’t come from rushing or memorising techniques. It comes from understanding people, learning to stay regulated, and being taught to think responsibly rather than perform correctly.

As a trainer, my responsibility is not just to help people qualify. It’s to protect students and the future clients they’ll work with by making sure training builds substance, not just speed.

Most people who train as hypnotherapists do not start out confident.

They start out curious. Thoughtful. Often with a quiet sense that they want to help others, but also a lot of questions about whether they are capable or ready.

Confidence is not something you need at the beginning. It is something that develops through understanding people, taking responsibility seriously, and learning how to stay grounded in real situations. Good training is not about turning you into someone else. It is about helping you become more aware, more regulated, and clearer in how you work with others.

For many students, the training journey supports personal growth as much as professional skill. You learn how to work ethically and safely, while also understanding yourself better along the way.

If you have ever felt drawn to hypnotherapy but questioned yourself, you are not alone.

A lot of people ask, “What actually is hypnotherapy?”

And the honest answer is that many explanations focus on techniques rather than meaning. You will hear what happens in a session, or what tools are used, but not what hypnotherapy really is.

The way we teach it is very simple. Hypnotherapy is therapy that takes place in hypnosis.

That matters, because it shifts the focus away from performance and towards responsibility, understanding people, and working ethically in real situations. Hypnosis is not the therapy itself. It is the state that allows therapy to happen more effectively.

When students understand that, everything else starts to make sense.

If you are curious about learning hypnotherapy properly and want a clearer understanding of what training actually involves, you can find more information on our website.

Thinking about hypnotherapy but not sure where to start?

A lot of people feel drawn to hypnotherapy but hesitate because they do not really know what training involves, whether they would be suitable, or what working with real people actually looks like.

We have put together a clear beginner’s guide to hypnotherapy training in the UK that explains what hypnotherapy really is, who training is for, what students often worry about before starting, and how learning is shaped by real world experience rather than theory alone.

If you are curious and want clarity rather than sales talk, this guide is a good place to begin.

Being a good hypnotherapist is not about being good at hypnosis. It is about how you show up, how you listen, and how safe people feel in your presence.

In real therapeutic work, emotional regulation and calm under pressure matter far more than performance. Clients are often vulnerable, uncertain, or overwhelmed, and they respond to steadiness, clarity, and reassurance. That ability to remain grounded cannot be memorised from a script.

Ethics, boundaries, and responsibility sit at the heart of effective hypnotherapy. Knowing when to act, when to pause, and when not to push is just as important as knowing what technique to use. Confidence does not come from performing methods, it comes from understanding people and taking that responsibility seriously.

This is why hypnotherapy training should go beyond learning techniques. It should prepare you for real people, real emotions, and real situations.

Why I Teach Hypnotherapy the Way I Do

Hypnotherapy is not something I learned from a script or a textbook alone. My approach comes from lived experience, real responsibility, and being present with people when it actually matters.

Over the years, I have seen how people respond under pressure. That experience taught me that calm presence, clear thinking, and responsibility are just as important as technique. In real therapeutic situations, you cannot rely on theory alone. You need to know how to stay grounded, focused, and trustworthy in the moment.

That is why the way I train students goes beyond learning methods. I focus on building confidence, awareness, and the ability to work with real people in real situations. Because when someone is sitting in front of you, they are trusting you, and that responsibility matters.

If you are thinking about training as a hypnotherapist, what matters most to you: techniques or real world confidence?

What does hypnosis actually feel like?

It’s one of the most common questions people ask, and the honest answer is that it’s different for everyone. Hypnosis is not about drifting off somewhere strange or losing awareness. Most people remain aware of what’s going on around them, while their body settles and their focus shifts.

A lot of beginners confuse hypnosis with relaxation. Relaxation can happen during hypnosis, but it is not the same thing. You do not need to feel deeply relaxed to be in hypnosis, and simply relaxing someone does not automatically mean hypnosis is taking place.

In this video, we talk through what hypnosis really feels like, how it differs from relaxation, and why understanding that difference matters when you are learning or experiencing hypnosis for yourself.
