WHY TRAINING WITH OTHERS WORKS

Research shows people are more consistent when they train in groups which is why our beginner weightlifting club is built on this premise! Small group, coach led and a superb group around you to keep you moving forward 😁

Why?
• Accountability
• Encouragement
• Shared energy

That’s why our sessions aren’t just workouts, they’re team efforts.

Get more from your warm up 💪

Your warm-up shouldn’t just “make you sweaty.”

It should prepare you for what you’re about to lift.

Try this simple structure:
1️⃣ Raise – 3–5 mins light cardio
2️⃣ Mobilise – hips, shoulders, ankles
3️⃣ Activate – 1–2 light sets of your first lift

Community tip:
Ask myself or Cathrine what your first working weight should feel like - we’re here to guide you 💪

March = Momentum Month

It's been a solid start to 2026 for our weightlifters but a new month means a fresh focus 💪

You don’t need a dramatic overhaul.
You just need small, consistent effort.

This community is built on:
• Turning up
• Supporting each other
• Getting 1% better each week

This week’s focus 🌟
Show up to your first session of the week and set the tone early!

Healthy • Happy • Active 💙

Fantastic first ever Community Workout this morning 🥳

Shame about the weather that we never really managed outside with our new outdoor set up 👀

But what a turnout!! Thanks to everyone who managed along and hope you all have a fantastic day!

Looking at setting up more free community workouts in the coming months... Who would be interested? 💃🏼

How much strength training do you really need?

Research suggests that just 2 sessions per week = big health benefits!!

That's why our foundation memberships offers exactly that! 💃🏼and it's been amazing to see the results over the past 18 months from our membership utilising their 1-2 classes per week 💪

If you’re consistent with 2–3 quality sessions, you’re doing enough to build your strength, improve your confidence and create longevity!

HOW TO IMPROVE SQUAT DEPTH SAFELY 💃🏼

Something I have been working on is my mobility so that I can get full range of motion when I squat.

It's a process.... 😂

But if you're also like me and struggling to hit depth?

Try this:
• Slow your descent
• Widen stance slightly
• Think “sit between the hips”

Also check:
✔ ankle mobility
✔ core brace
✔ breathing

These are all things that might be limiting your movement. Try this to test it out 👇👇👇

Goblet squats with a 3-second descent for your warm-up.

Depth comes from control, not forcing it.

And if you need any extra help, our beginner weightlifting club is set up just for that 👌 drop us a message for more info 😊

TRAIN FOR LIFE, NOT JUST FOR SUMMER 💪

Being real world fit has always been at the forefront of my own training and something I actively push within every class!

Short-term goals are fine.
Long-term habits are better. That's where you see real results and improve the quality of your life.

That's what my member Dave embodies! Everything we do is all about helping him improve his quality of life outside of the gym 💪

Ask yourself: “Can I maintain this in 5 years?”

Because who doesn't want to be that jacked 80 year old in the gym? 💃🏼

This week:
Choose consistency over extremes.
2–3 solid sessions beats burnout every time.

Did you know?!

More muscle = better insulin sensitivity.

Better insulin sensitivity = better energy use.

Research shows resistance training improves:
• Blood sugar control
• Energy levels
• Long-term health markers

It's not just about building strong bodies, it's about helping you perform better in everyday life.

Strength training isn’t optional - it’s preventative healthcare 💪

Do you struggle to recover between your training sessions?

Then try these....

• Sleep 7–9 hours
• Eat enough protein
• Walk more
• Train smart

Simple upgrade:
Add a 10–15 min walk on rest days.
It improves recovery without adding stress!

It's not always more, more, more! You need to treat recovery the same way you do your training 💪

P.S this is a wee photo from our last wellbeing event 😂 taking the time to focus on recovery!

All About Get Active Coaching CIC

Get Active Coaching was established in October 2019 as a sport and exercise business with one simple mission: help get more children and adults active through sport and physical activity. It was set up by me! My name is Martin, and I started this business as I love all things sport and exercise. I wanted to find a way that I could use my passion, experience and knowledge to benefit others.

I have been involved in sport all my life and reached a high level in my younger days in both rugby and football. I have been a Rugby Developmment Officer for Scottish Rugby, which is where I gained a huge amount about how to implement sport and exercise in the community. Except this time, its not just for rugby, it is for every sport you can think of. Since my time as a Rugby Development Officer, I have completed my BSC (Hons) in Sport, Fitness and Coaching, achieved numerous sport coaching qualifications, which has given me the foundation to start and build Get Active Coaching!

Now, back to business. Get Active Coaching has recently achieved a huge milestone: We are now a Community Interest Company! I have spent the last 6 months creating partnerships with local organisations to develop working relationships, business parnerships and even assemble a small coaching workforce to help me with my delivery. I can now begin to make a bigger impact in the community through sport and exercise and help people live a healthier lifestyle as a result.
