Perfect Your Deadlift 💪💪

Here's a simple checklist to go through next time you're setting up for your Deadlifts:

✅ Feet under hips
✅ Grip tight
✅ Chest proud, shoulder blades back
✅ Hinge at the hips, not the waist

A great way to check your form is doing them in front of the mirror (or side on) or even recording yourself (or you're always welcome along at the Weightlifting Club 🌟)

10 minutes of movement.
1 good meal.
A short walk.
These micro wins compound massively over time.

Here's a simple little workout for you to try!

Set a 10-minute timer today and complete:

10 bodyweight squats
10 push-ups
20-second plank

Repeat as many rounds as you can.
Small steps → Big change 🔥

Why Do “Beginner Programmes” Actually Work Better?

Studies show structured beginner resistance programmes:

• Improve adherence (people stick with them)
• Reduce dropout rates
• Improve technique faster
• Lower injury risk

Random workouts = random results. Structure creates confidence and consistency.

"How To" Wednesday 🌟

Today's edition is...... How To Build Strength Without Adding Weight!

You don’t need to constantly chase heavier plates. Try these instead:

Tempo work (3 seconds down)

Pause reps (1–2 sec at the bottom)

Reduced rest (go from 2 min → 90 sec)

Extra reps (+2 reps at the same weight)

So here's a wee challenge for you...
Pick one exercise in your next workout today and try a 3-second lowering phase and do the same number of reps as usual. Your muscles will feel the difference 💪

Strength training isn’t just about muscles… it’s about becoming someone who proves to themselves they can do hard things. That's the foundational principle our weightlifting club is built on.

Every rep → a vote for the person you want to become.

Here's a simple tip: Write down one confidence goal (e.g., “feel stronger picking up my kids”). Then match it with one gym goal that supports it.

If I could sum up my first full week back it would be the following:

Burnt out from all the planning but energised from all our members returning and welcoming 9 NEW MEMBERS THIS WEEK!!!💪
A complete sense of achievement and pride at how far GAC has come yet overwhelmed with how far we are yet to go!

Ready to ride this rollercoaster again this year 😂

I'm sure all you other business owners can relate 😂

It's a real mix bag welcoming new members into the weightlifting club, setting up our sports coaches for another amazing year of helping kids get active, working with our gym based coaches to make sure our programmes as even better and more impactful than last year, setting everyone up with their new programmes on our app (🙄😂) and also trying to complete my MSc and enrol in a PHD this year as well!!!

But I have already achieved a goal of mine for 2026 and that's to become titled in chess!! ♟️

2026 is off to a flyer and I'm excited to see where it takes me and GAC!

A new week means a new chance to get stronger and today is the very first day for all of our in person and online weightlifters starting their new programme 💪

Remember, consistency always beats perfection.

If all you do this week is show up, lift smart, and fuel yourself, you’re already winning.

Here's a way to really lock in: Choose ONE lift to focus on this week (squat, hinge, press, pull).

Track the weight.
Beat it by 2–2.5kg next week or add a couple of reps with the same weight.

All About Get Active Coaching CIC

Get Active Coaching was established in October 2019 as a sport and exercise business with one simple mission: help get more children and adults active through sport and physical activity. It was set up by me! My name is Martin, and I started this business as I love all things sport and exercise. I wanted to find a way that I could use my passion, experience and knowledge to benefit others.

I have been involved in sport all my life and reached a high level in my younger days in both rugby and football. I have been a Rugby Developmment Officer for Scottish Rugby, which is where I gained a huge amount about how to implement sport and exercise in the community. Except this time, its not just for rugby, it is for every sport you can think of. Since my time as a Rugby Development Officer, I have completed my BSC (Hons) in Sport, Fitness and Coaching, achieved numerous sport coaching qualifications, which has given me the foundation to start and build Get Active Coaching!

Now, back to business. Get Active Coaching has recently achieved a huge milestone: We are now a Community Interest Company! I have spent the last 6 months creating partnerships with local organisations to develop working relationships, business parnerships and even assemble a small coaching workforce to help me with my delivery. I can now begin to make a bigger impact in the community through sport and exercise and help people live a healthier lifestyle as a result.
