The end of an era 🩷
Tomorrow is my last day working for Who Cares? Scotland and I'm feeling reflective.
Back in 2016 I was working in a role with a fixed-term contract which there was no funding to renew. I was applying for different roles and I got invited to interview for the one I really wanted. It was a local authority position with great salary, hours, working conditions, security, pension etc. On paper, my perfect job.
My interview for Who Cares? Scotland came first. I had always admired the work of the organisation having previously worked in residential care, but the terms of the role weren't as good as the other one and so it wasn't my preferred option.
Until I stepped in the door.
By the end of the interview, I was 100% certain that Who Cares? Scotland was the place for me and went home to withdraw from the other process.
I could tell that this was a unique place, made up of very unique people. As I waited to go into the interview I was surrounded on a sofa by colleagues having bacon rolls and laughing. It wasn't just the genuine care for each other that drew me in, it was their obvious passion for wanting to make the world a better place.
I don't think I could actually have anticipated how amazing the years to come would be. Serving our Care Experienced members has been an honour and a privilege I am so grateful to have had. Surrounded by the best team of colleagues, whose passion, dedication, talent and love has always inspired me. Working with amazing partners both in the community and nationally. I have made memories, connections and relationships that will last a lifetime.
I promise, our mission of a lifetime of equality, respect and love for Care Experienced people is etched into my heart. And it will continue to guide everything I do next.
I am so grateful to 25 year old me for trusting her gut instinct, especially when it made no logical sense. I hope she's proud of the leap I am taking now 🩷
Exciting things coming for ...
