We look forward to welcoming you to our doors open day tomorrow. With a guided tour of our cemetery at 12noon.

22/08/2025

Come and join us on Saturday 6th September. As part of Doors Open Days, we invite you to join us for a tour of the cemetery and crematorium. Visitor tours will start at 12noon, everyone welcome.

Woodside Cemetery was laid out in 1845 to a design drawn up by Stewart Murray, curator of Glasgow Botanic Gardens. Situated on a low hill-top position between Woodside House and Ferguslie House, and offering stunning vistas of the surrounding area, the “garden cemetery” extends to just over 20 acres and now incorporates the recently built Martyr’s Church and the adjacent Covenanter Martyrs Memorial.
In 1938 a new, purpose-built crematorium, designed by the well-known local architect James Steel Maitland was completed. At that time, it was regarded as one of the finest buildings of its kind anywhere in the country; it was opened on 28th October 1938 by the Rt, Hon. Lord Salveson, due to its heritage it has now been given listed status.

Tomorrow marks the end of my nine years as Manager at Woodside. I want to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the funeral directors, arrangers, drivers, organists, service leaders, and the many dedicated individuals who work tirelessly to support the families who place their trust in us.

I am incredibly proud of the small but dedicated team I have had the privilege of working alongside each day. Your commitment and compassion make a real difference, and I will truly miss you all.

Finally, to the families who have entrusted Woodside with the care of their loved ones during life’s most difficult moments—it has been an honour to support you. I wish you all the very best for the future.

Katrina

To Anyone Dreading Mothering Sunday: This Is for You 💔🌸

Mothering Sunday can be one of the most tender, painful days of the year if your mum has died — or if your child has.
The cards, the flowers, the smiling faces on social media — what feels like simple joy for others can land like a punch to the heart.

Everywhere you turn, there are reminders of what’s missing. Of who’s missing.

If this day is hard for you, please be gentle with yourself.

You don’t need to power through or pretend.

You don’t need to ‘white-knuckle’ your way to Monday.

Grief doesn’t vanish when ignored — but neither does love.

Your love for them and theirs for you, hasn’t gone anywhere. It lives on — today and every day.

So take the day gently. Switch off the noise if you need to — social media, group chats, even plans that feel too much.

Make space for what soothes you. Walk somewhere quiet. Sit with a friend who gets it. Curl up with a blanket and a book. Or do absolutely nothing. That’s allowed too.

Mark your love in a way that feels right for you:

👒 Wear something of theirs.
🥘 Cook their favourite meal.
🕯️ Light a candle.
💌 Write them a card.
♥️ Speak their name.

A small ritual can be a bridge — between now and then, between you and them.

However you choose to spend the day, let it be with kindness. You deserve that.

Your grief is real because your love is real.

And that love — however deep the ache — never dies. ♥️

Proud to be part of this fantastic scheme, we shall be announcing our donations in the coming weeks.

Recycling of Metals - February 2025 – ICCM/ Orthometals

Once again we thank all of our scheme members for their support in helping support the largest national scheme, that delivers the highest possible rate of return from processing and selling recycled metals to the largest possible market to generate the most funds for charities and not for profit

Since we began the scheme has now generated over £22 million for good causes in the United Kingdom.

The latest round which finished in February 2025 donated another £1.6 million via 198 separate nomination requests.

This now means that 777 different charities have been award funds and nearly 3,000 nominations have been made.

Thank you again to everyone. The wishes of the bereaved to help after the loss of a loved one means so much to all the charities. Our support is needed by them more than ever. Your participation has helped them to help others to an incredible extent and will continue to do so.

Funerals bring us together to celebrate a life well-lived and share the love that remains.

In recent years, we’ve seen a rise in direct cremations—no service, no gathering, no goodbyes. While they might seem simpler or more cost-effective, they often leave something important behind: the chance for family and friends to come together, share memories, and support one another.

Funerals aren’t just about farewells—they’re about connection, healing, and celebrating a unique life. Skipping this step can leave loved ones feeling adrift, missing the opportunity to honour their person and find closure.

If you're planning a funeral for yourself or a loved one, consider how coming together can create a meaningful moment to honour their life and share love and memories.

Contact us or talk to your local funeral director to if you would like to find out more.

Thank you for your concern regarding the cloister plaques. These plaques are a cherished part of Woodside, and we understand the importance they hold for many. Over the past few years, the frames have unfortunately deteriorated, and we are currently in the process of refurbishing the area and having new frames made.

In order to replace the frames, we will need to temporarily remove the existing plaques. We have placed notices and shared updates via social media over the past few weeks to keep everyone informed of the changes.

If you have any concerns about the safety or security of your plaque, please don’t hesitate to contact our office at 0141 889 2260, and we would be happy to assist you.

Thank you again for your understanding and support.
