Helplines Awareness Day is a national campaign that shines a spotlight on the incredible work of helplines across the UK.
Each year on 23 February, we celebrate the dedicated employees and volunteers who make a difference every day, and ensure their vital work is recognised, valued, and heard.
Helplines Partnership is the membership body for organisations that provide information, support or advice via phone, email, text or online. They have approximately 350 members in the UK and internationally varying from large national charities to smaller local and specialist charities as well as some businesses. They have been committed to supporting organisations that provide non-face-to-face advice, support and information to improve general wellbeing for over 20 years.
FMA UK has been a member for several years. Our helpline volunteers are trained by the Helplines Partnership, ensuring they have the basic skills to assist them in answering calls. Many of our volunteers also go on to complete the more advanced levels of training that are available.
FMA UK’s national helpline is available on 0300 999 3333 Monday – Friday 10.00-4.00. Our volunteers take calls from people with fibromyalgia, their family/friends, health professionals and others. Calls cover all aspects of living with fibromyalgia, from someone newly diagnosed looking for an information pack to someone with the condition for many years with a question about a new symptom.
FMA UK’s helpline volunteers work from home, need no experience other than an understanding of fibromyalgia, the ability to listen and are often the first person that a caller has spoken to who understands. If you have a few hours to spare and would like to be considered as a volunteer, please email hazel.borland@fmauk.org for more information. 💜
