A little more about the bench...it was originally incorporated into the entrance of The Bird in the Hand Hotel, however it was later moved to facilitate a wider entrance to the hotel.

Laura from J & W Goudie, Paisley along with Allan from Coop Funeralcare, Johnstone, with a little extra help from his son Ryan, are helping to fix a little piece of Johnstone history that was looking a bit worse for wear...The Rest and Be Thankful Bench in the old Quarrelton area. It is a work in progress but already looking better.

A little bit of history....The Rest and Be Thankful
This is thought to have been built in the late 19th century by George Ludovic Houston, the last Laird of Johnstone. He lived in nearby Johnstone Castle, and was responsible for the construction of many town landmarks, such as the Houston Square bandstand, Gordon Square and Cochrane Tower.
