A magical clinic day today. ✨

It began slowly, with morning coffee taken at an unhurried pace, blue sky and sunshine already hinting that the day might hold something special. My run was accompanied by birdsong and blossom, nature’s perfect soundtrack and company.

My first client arrived open, authentic and gentle. They were navigating a variety of struggles, and I could feel my instincts and intuition immediately awaken in response. We blended a heady mix of geranium, sage and jasmine in a base of grapeseed oil, letting the aroma set the tone for what would unfold.

The massage became a weaving — pressure and palpation, elbows to cranial holds, rocking and stillness. Back, neck, shoulders, face, jaw, head and hair. A beautiful symphony of touch.

As she left she paused and said, “That exceeded my expectations.” Her eyes were bright, shoulders lower, standing taller. In that moment a part of me felt every bit the crone I am — quietly passing a little wisdom and care to a younger version of myself.

My next two clients were treated in their own home, surrounded by green fields and trees, with a song thrush joining our soundscape. Both sessions were fluid and deeply intuitive — forearms and elbows leading the way as movements came alive in the moment.

Days like this reaffirm why I love my work so deeply — the power of therapeutic touch, the moment of finding exactly the right place on a scar, the gentle release of fear, tears, sweat, and rigid patterns held tight after accident or injury.

Old Thai yoga moves even came out to play — knuckles, passive stretches, forgotten rhythms returning to the hands.

Such a glorious day. Grateful for the work, the trust, and the quiet magic that happens when therapeutic touch, intuition and presence meet 🩷

Massage and Yin, or Yin and Massage?

I’m very much a massage first, then melt into Yin person. There’s something about moving straight from massage into a slower, quieter Yin practice that feels like a natural way to unwind.

It did get me thinking though… have you ever considered booking a 90-minute session and experiencing both together?

A combination of massage and Yin, or Yin and massage, in the same session.

Two simple practices, brought together in one space. Worth a thought, isn’t it?

In a world that rarely pauses, we forget that we were never designed to move at the speed of constant scrolling, notifications, planning, worrying, and decision-making.

The nervous system needs rhythm. Space. Silence.

Taking time to slow down isn’t a luxury, it’s essential maintenance for the body and mind.

Imagine stepping away from the noise for a while.
Phones down. Lists paused. The mental tabs quietly closing.

A full body massage that allows every muscle to soften and lengthen.

Reflexology or Thai Foot Massage grounding you through the feet, where the whole body is reflected.

An Indian Head and Shoulder Massage, with that beautiful, focused work across the tops of the shoulders, neck, scalp, face, jaw and around the eyes, the places where modern life quietly stores its tension.

Breath deepens.
The mind becomes spacious.

Muscles release their grip, fascia hydrates and begins to glide again, and you drift into that liminal space between doing and being, neither here nor there, where the nervous system finally exhales.

This is where the reset happens.

Not through more productivity.
Not through pushing harder.

But through rest, touch, stillness and care.

Make time to pause. Your body already knows the way back.

For those of you who appreciate a science perspective.

Yin Yoga is not stretching.

Whilst we are sinking into an asana, we apply a tensile force at a joint and load fascia, rather than contracting muscles strongly.

Fascia is richly innervated with interoceptive and mechanosensitive endings, and slow, sustained load allows fascial layers to glide, rehydrate, and remodel, which is felt as a gradual softening or “unwinding” of tension.

Because fascial tissues carry sensory endings linked into autonomic pathways, chronic fascial contraction and “holding patterns” tend to mirror a chronically defensive autonomic state, while slow release of fascial tension provides prolonged, low‑intensity afferent input, signalling safety.

Over time, this helps loosen rigid postural and breathing patterns that support sympathetic overdrive, creating conditions in which baseline vagal tone can improve between sessions.

Yin asana often combine three elements that are all relevant to vagal regulation:

Gentle, non‑threatening lengthening of muscles and fascia, kept below a pain or panic threshold, which limits strong sympathetic activation from mechanoreceptors.

Prolonged diaphragmatic breathing with lengthened exhalation, directly stimulating vagal pathways in the thorax and abdomen and associated brainstem circuits that promote calm and social engagement.

A mindful, non‑reactive attentional stance, which is linked with healthier “vagal flexibility” and better recovery from stress.

All of this is happening whilst we sink into each pose and follow the breath. Who knew so much was going on, whilst apparently not doing anything at all.

We need a paradigm shift in perspective and our apporach to living.

From DOING to BEING

From BUSY to REST

We must learn to Slow Down.

When we do, pain eases, stress subsides, we glimpse peace of mind and improve the quality of our life.

Next extended practice is 29th March.

We come together with no pressure, no competition, and nothing to prove.

This is your pause, a quiet space away from the swirl of busyness,

For some, the practice will speak through the body,
through the subtle language of muscles, fascia, bones, and organs. You may notice length and spaciousness,
the gentle opening of hips, back, and shoulders,
and the soothing rhythm of forward folds massaging internal organs.

For others, it will speak through relaxation,
the body melting into each shape for long, unhurried moments as the breath flows in and out like a tide.
Here, tension begins to loosen its hold. The nervous system softens, inviting rest and repair, quietly lowering the fires of inflammation.

Perhaps your attention drifts to the inner currents,
the meridians, the centres of energy and awareness.
Whether we follow one path or the whole constellation,
energy always finds its way, touching every part of you.
Yin is a web, touch one thread and the whole vibrates.

However you arrive, however you choose to be, in movement, in stillness, in sleep, is already enough. This is your practice.

And always remember: pain is the body’s whisper to stop,
to ease back, to listen.

We move only to the edge of sensation, the delicate boundary where awareness meets release.

Yin does not ask you to push, it invites you to soften, to balance all that is yang.

Our next extended practice, including yoga nidra is tomorrow - the class is FULL. Bookings now open for 29th March. 2pm to 4pm, Pangbourne Village Hall, West Berkshire.
