Retrospecced recycles and refurbishes fabulous vintage, antique and designer frames for sustainable fashion! It’s a unique social enterprise in support of the fantastic work done by Vision Aid Overseas. Retrospecced was founded by Tracey and Lucy, a mother and daughter who realised that there are very few places for people to recycle their old spectacles in the UK or on the web. The concept of Ret
rospecced was born when Lucy had her new pair of designer spectacles. She asked her optometrist, (who also happens to be her mother Tracey!), what she should do with her old Prada frame and whether it could be donated to charity. Her old Prada frame was immaculate, as she’d only ever used them for night driving and so they were hardly worn. Lucy, like many people, thought that they could be donated to charity, distributed and used by people who would really benefit from them. She was aghast when she realised they would probably end up in landfill – so the idea of Retrospecced was born! The charity Vision Aid Overseas (‘VAO’) needs money to fund their word providing eye care across the developing world. There had to be a way to raise money from the sale of frames like these, as well as antique and retro spectacles in order to contribute to the really worthwhile work VAO do. For every pair of ‘Retrospeccs’ bought by you, we will donate 20% of the frame price directly to Vision Aid Overseas, so you will be helping those in the developing world to see and work and support their families. (Find out why charities such as VAO no longer send donated frames overseas at this link: https://www.visionaidoverseas.org/Pages/FAQs/Default.aspx?CategoryTitle=recycling-faqs&SubsiteTitle=recycling).
