Have you had breast cancer surgery? Or know someone who has? I’m working on this research in my capacity as a ScarWork therapist and sharing this email from the co lead, as we are looking for participants for this really important study. Please read below and see if it’s of interest.
If it is, you can contact me and I’ll put you in connect with Nicole and the team.
Otherwise, please contact directly: nicole.collaco@nhs.net
Subject:ScarWork Study for breast cancer.
My name is Nicole, and I’m a Research Fellow at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. I’m getting in touch about a research study with the patient support group run by The South East London Breast Cancer Trust. It’s a study I co-lead with Associate Professor John Hughes, Director of Research at the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine.
The study, a feasibility trial of ScarWork on post-breast surgery pain syndrome (PBSPS) in early stage breast cancer patients, is investigating ScarWork; a gentle, light-touch therapy that may help reduce pain related to scarring after breast surgery.
We’re looking to recruit adults with stage 1 or 2 breast cancer who are in remission but still experience post-surgery pain. Participants must be over 18, at least six months post-radiotherapy (if applicable), and able to attend regular sessions in central London.
We aim to recruit 40 people from diverse backgrounds. Not everyone will receive the therapy, as we’re comparing outcomes between those who do and don’t receive ScarWork. Those allocated to the therapy group will receive up to five sessions with a qualified ScarWork therapist. Participants will also be asked to complete some questionnaires at three different times and take part in a short phone interview.
Thank you for considering this, and please do get in touch if you have any questions.
Best wishes,
Nicole, and on behalf of John
