‘Many people are struggling with their mental health without the provision to support them.’

We have chosen our fees sensitively, after having had many conversations considering how to balance earning a living as counsellors whilst wanting to ensure some level of access. Though we appreciate there are still limitations to what we are offering, we have put together pricing that feels ‘good enough’ for now and where we are in our work. We have considered those in the local area who are in receipt of the real living wage as well as those who can contribute to other fee brackets.

Often low cost counselling and concessions can still feel inaccessible. We hope that by offering some sessions at a reduced rate, we can support some of this need in our community. Clients who pay £11 a session receive 12 sessions. This can ensure increased client numbers accessing counselling. There are no applications to demonstrate earnings; we talk with our clients to agree a fee that feels suitable for them.

We have created a counselling environment with intention, to provide a nurturing and peaceful atmosphere for the sessions to unfold. We believe in the importance of the ‘counselling space’, whether that be face to face, online or on the telephone.

We work from a counselling room in a private residence located in Peacehaven and welcome clients from the Sussex area. The location is served by local coastal bus routes from both Brighton and Eastbourne (12A, 12, 12X) and there is plenty of free on-street parking nearby.

Your budget shouldn’t mean a compromise on the quality of the counselling service you receive. Whether we work with you on a short or long term basis, we are committed to offering you the same accepting environment and presence – we care about how we show up for our clients. Potential for change is possible with both open ended counselling and short term work. To be seen and heard is valuable.

£35/£50 per 50 minute session - We offer both open ended and short term counselling nationwide, for individuals who feel able to contribute to the mid and upper fees bracket of our counselling service.

£11 per 50 minute session - We provide a 12 session therapy model for residents living in the local Sussex area in support of the Real Living Wage. In order to ensure openings to support a range of clients we operate a rolling system of shorter term therapy with waiting lists.

This month we honour the history, achievements and challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community.

Pride month is a time to reflect on the continuing challenges LGBTQIA+ people face in moving towards equality, acceptance and inclusion with continuing barriers to their human rights. It’s also a time to celebrate and educate, to promote and advocate, for LGBTQIA+ individuals and allies to unite and make diverse voices heard.

Mental health matters and here at Flow we both believe in an inclusive practice, working with Gender, sexual and relationship diversity (GSRD), offering everyone a space to be and to explore who they are.

Affirmative therapy doesn't see a hierarchy of gender and sexual identity, experiences or expressions. Everyone is valid.

Samson, one of our counsellors who is a part of the LGBTQIA+ community, recognises 'how affirmative therapy can play an important part in clients understanding their gender and sexual identity, finding acceptance and self-love, perhaps after spending much of their lives denying these beautiful parts of themselves. Therapy can provide a safe space to support people in moving towards living in a way that feels authentic to them.'

Flow Counselling, proudly celebrating and standing in solidarity with LGBTQIA+ therapists and clients.

My training as a therapist began after following a creative career path; during that time, I faced my own challenges and experienced the power and the potential for change that blossomed from therapy.

How I work

I believe in offering a space where I can listen to you; I am not here to work you out or analyse you; together, we can make sense of your thoughts and reflections, discover what is going on for you, what you wish to change and how you might achieve these things.
This unfolds at your pace where I walk beside you; the journey is a collaborative one where you lead. I have no expectations of you. This time is for you, just as you are, where all your feelings, thoughts and emotions are welcome.
Although free of direct advice, this approach doesn’t mean you can’t ask questions, or it won’t feel challenging; a lot can come up in the sessions, and I will be there with you throughout.

Experience

I have experience with various issues that can show up in sessions, from addiction struggles, relationship and communication difficulties, sexuality, neurodiversity, creativity blocks and a wide range of emotional problems.

Each therapist and how they work is unique; giving a flavour of a session isn’t easy, and holding that, I feel it is something to experience.

I hope this resonates as a gentle invitation to try a session yourself.

I’ve had personal experience of mental health issues and having ‘dark nights of the soul’. I’ve been on my own counselling journey of healing, which plays an important part of shaping me as a person and counsellor, increasing my capacity to empathise and understand elements of suffering. However, I appreciate the importance of meeting you as an individual with your unique lens on the world, honouring our differences.

How I work

Experientially, in a way that sees you as a whole person, offering a gentle curiosity around how you experience the world. Whatever the issue is that you’re facing, we can work together in a nurturing environment and find new ways of being. This may be galvanised by coming closer to who you are, forging new relationships with parts of yourself (sometimes younger parts) that have been calling to be noticed and looking at situations with a fresh lens. I offer my presence to you for this to unfold, without giving advice or analysis. I believe no-one can know your reality the way that you do, you are the expert. I trust in you, I trust in me and the changes our therapeutic relationship can support.

Interests/Experience

I welcome everyone to my practice. My experience supporting clients includes but is not limited to areas such as :-

Self-esteem
Relationships
Trauma
Depression
Anxiety
Neurodiversity
Gender, Sexual and Relationship diversity (GSRD) offering LGBTQ+ specific affirmative practice.

My special interests informed by my End of Life Doula training involve working with:-

Spiritual/transpersonal/non-ordinary experiences
Eco-anxiety
Death, loss and transitions

I look forward to meeting you.

Part Two: Dave met Sam ☺️

‘When Sam and I started developing a friendship during our training, it made sense to carry this on into building a practice together. Sam would be the person I’d want as my counsellor. Not only do I see all the qualities of kindness, understanding and genuine acceptance that make him a great therapist, I learn so much from being around and in relationship with him. His experience as an end-of-life doula and working with the transpersonal offer a unique experience that adds to rather than takes away from his core Person Centred approach - it feels a privilege to be working and growing beside him.’

We thought it might be a nice idea to do some introductions, sharing our experience of each other and how and why we connected to form Flow Counselling.

Part One: Sam met Dave 😊

‘I met Dave during counselling training. I was immediately touched by his open genuine expression, kindness and integrity. I felt a kinship in hearing our similar experiences and values; recognition of some of the challenges of being human and having a sense of belonging in the world. Daves passion for the person centred approach and his ability to empathise and have a real curiosity to understand another persons experience is beautiful to witness. He really cares about people. We both appreciate the importance of offering a space where people can show up just as they are. I hope clients feel some sense of belonging with Flow.’
