On this a Valentine’s Day, may you lean into love and beauty. Shower yourself with the love of roses, and bask in the pleasures of this human body. Plant seeds of love and kindness and allow the ripple effects to blossom.
The metta bhavana meditation, translated as loving kindness, is the first of the Four Brahma Vihara meditation practices taught by the Buddha.
The meditation focuses on generating loving-kindness toward oneself and others starting with self, known individuals, and eventually to include all beings, to the seen and unseen, known and unknown, earthly and cosmically. The meditation can further extend to plant seeds into the hearts of our “enemies” or into places of darkness.
May I be happy, healthy and whole.
May I have love, warmth and affection.
May I be protected from harm, and free from fear.
May I be alive, engaged and joyful.
May I enjoy inner peace and ease.
May that peace expand into their world and throughout the entire universe.
