3 things I’d advise women to prioritise to support their hormones🤍

➡️don’t cut carbs
➡️protein at breakfast
➡️avoid exercise fasted

Cortisol is not the enemy, it is a crucial hormone that gets us up in the morning, gives us motivation and protects us if we are in danger.

Issues only appear when it becomes chronically high and the body is in constant fight or flight mode — it throws everything out the window to prioritise your safety.

If your body feels safe, it will work in your favour🤍

Symptom-focused approach can give quick fixes, but it doesn’t uncover the root cause of why they are there – the underlying drivers that are perpetuating the symptom – and that’s when we must ask the question of why

For example...
➡️You may have gut issues, but I want to understand your stress levels are and how your nervous system is functioning.

➡️You may want to know how to clear your skin, but I want to know how your gut and liver health is, as this is where hormones and toxins are processed and cleared.

➡️ You're tired all the time, but this isn’t just about your iron levels. I want to know how steady your blood sugar levels are – are you eating consistent meals? Do you have cravings? Could there be an imbalanced gut microbiome that could be driving inflammation?

We take time to explore the bigger picture – your day-to-day lifestyle, sleep patterns, stress load, work demands, home life, energy levels, digestion, medical history, medications, and previous injuries or illnesses.

Why? Because this deeper understanding helps join the dots of what the drivers are of what's showing up on the surface.

Homemade protein bars✨

10.5g of protein per slice😋 when cut into 6!

(I sliced mine into 12, but just means I get to eat two✌🏼)

100g ground almonds
100g blended oats / oat flour
20g protein powder (I used chocolate hazelnut)
4 tbsp peanut butter or almond butter
Drizzle of almond milk

Bar of 85% dark chocolate
1 tsp coconut oil
Sprinkle of flaked almonds for the top

1. Mix together the oats, ground almonds and protein powder
2. Add the peanut butter, maple syrup and almond milk. Mix until combined
3. Drizzle melted dark chocolate on top and flakes almonds. Put in the fridge until set
Slice into bars, and enjoy!

If you are ignoring your mid-afternoon hunger and telling yourself ‘I’ll just hang on until dinner’, this can often backfire. When your hunger cues are ignored, your body speaks louder in an attempt to get you to eat

Instead of restricting yourself and ignoring the hunger, use a balanced snack to fuel yourself – it’s just another opportunity to nourish your body!

✨Why restrictive diets don't work - January Nourish & Refresh offer✨

Whether it’s cutting out food groups, or severely lowering calories, our body sees this as a threat – raising stress hormones, intensifying cravings in search for energy and causing continious thoughts about food. This isn’t lack of willpower, this is biology.

Why they don't work...
❌They don’t address why your body may be struggling e.g., gut -health, hormone imbalances, blood sugar spikes etc.
❌They don’t spark joy and can often lead to more anxiety or guilt around food
❌They can disrupt metabolism and blood sugars
❌They disconnect you from hunger cues and fullness

Instead, focus on...
🍽️3 balanced meals a day (protein + healthy fats + complex carbs): Focus on having balanced meals and avoid skipping meals - Skipping meals will only cause blood sugar drops, intensifying cravings.
🔑Stay consistent with habits: Avoid trying to strive for perfection - consistency is key when it comes to building healthy habits that last. Start small (really small!) and build from there.
🥗Focus on adding, not taking away: Good well-being comes from adding, not taking away. What nourishment can you add to your meals?

Health isn’t about eating less, it's about eating the right foods that make you feel good and creating habits that you enjoy and are able to sustain.

My approach is never restriction as the stress of this can be more detrimental than the food itself. Instead, I focus on what foods we can add in to best optimise your health (with room for foods that bring joy🍕)
Think 80:20 – 80% eating well, which leaves you 20% wiggle room to eat what your heart desires!
