Durham County Carers Support are able to provide financial support and energy efficiency advice to unpaid carers across County Durham and Darlington through their current project.

Many carers are under increasing financial pressure, and they are providing tailored one-to-one support to help ease the burden. This includes:
• Welfare benefit checks
• Income maximisation advice
• Debt support and signposting
• Energy efficiency guidance, including:
o Help accessing better utility tariffs (energy, broadband, mobile)
o Practical tools and resources such as energy efficiency packs
o Advice on safe, low-cost heating and cooking options
o Awareness around carbon monoxide risks and access to free CO monitors (where eligible)

They are also delivering workshops and outreach sessions on topics like cooking on a budget, healthy low-cost meals, and how to make the most of energy-saving appliances such as slow cookers.

In addition, they now have Household Support Funding available to assist the most vulnerable households facing a financial crisis. This includes help with:
• Food and fuel costs
• Energy-efficient cooking and heating appliances
• Support with essential transport costs (e.g. getting to medical appointments or community support)
• Other forms of practical crisis relief, depending on individual needs

Please check out their website https://dccarers.org/ for more contact details or feel free to contact the surgery and we can refer to the service on your behalf.
