Today is World Mental Health Day - a day to talk about mental health and show everyone that mental health matters.🌍💜

This year the theme is ‘overwhelm’. Many of us are feeling overwhelmed by global events and what can feel like non-stop negative news.

It’s okay to feel this way and it’s okay to ask for help, no matter what you are going through.

Take time today to start a conversation with a friend about what good mental health means to you.💜

Check out tips on how to support your mental health in difficult times: https://tinyurl.com/2h3fz4jw

World Mental Health Day is celebrated every year on 10 October. The theme is set by the World Federation of Mental Health.

It is important that if you have Diabetes that you attend Diabetic Eye Screening appointments that are offered through the NHS at our local hospitals.

If you attend your Diabetic Eye Screening appointment it can reduce the risks of sight loss! It's free, simple and takes aprox 30 minutes. You can also choose to attend one of the nine locations across County Durham and Darlington.

Please contact: 01325 342113 if you are needing to book your appointment.

Thank you

Today is World Sepsis Day

Sepsis is a life threatening emergency that is caused by the body’s response to an infection that can injure its own tissues and organs.

If not recognised early and treated promptly, sepsis can lead to shock, multiple organ failure and even death.

In cases of sepsis, every hour that treatment is delayed the chance of death increases.

Anyone with an infection who starts to feel unwell with any of the following symptoms should seek medical advice urgently by calling NHS 111 or 999 only in an emergency:

-Slurred speech
-Confusion
-Extreme shivering or muscle pain
-Passing no urine (in a day)
-Severe breathlessness
-Mottled skin/discoloured

🌬️ It’s Ask About Asthma Week – Let’s Help Our Children Breathe Easier! 🌬️

Did you know 1 in 11 children in the UK live with asthma? Asthma attacks can often be prevented with the right care and awareness. This week, we’re encouraging parents and carers to and take simple steps to keep children safe and active.

Here’s what you can do today:
✔ Check their inhaler technique – Make sure your child knows how to use it properly.
✔ Keep an up-to-date Asthma Action Plan – Ask your GP or nurse if you don’t have one.
✔ Know the triggers – Dust, pollen, smoke, and colds can all make asthma worse.
✔ Always carry their reliever inhaler – Especially for school, sports, and playtime.

💡 Tip: Encourage your child to talk about how they feel. Early signs like coughing at night or breathlessness during play can mean their asthma isn’t well controlled.

📲 For trusted advice and resources, visit Healthier Together - https://nenc-healthiertogether.nhs.uk/professionals/long-term-health-conditions/asthma

👍Encourage Schools and Clubs to join in too

Let’s work together to make sure every child can enjoy school, sports and play without fear of an asthma attack. 💙
