Zoe Adams – Associate Osteopath

Originally from North Wales, Zoe moved down to Swansea for university and fell in love with surfing down Gower and exploring more of South Wales, from the Brecon Beacons to Pembrokeshire.

Today John examined the following on a cadaver(dead body)as part of his Physicians Associate Training at Swansea University ,funded by the NHS

1/ the appendix (skinny little thing) a small, thin pouch about 5-10cm (2-4 inches) long. It's connected to the large intestine, where stools (faeces) are formed. Nobody knows exactly why we have an appendix, but removing it isn't harmful. Appendicitis typically starts with a pain in the middle of your tummy (abdomen) that may come and go.

2/the stomach (very small and a little bit disappointed) but expands greatly

3/the pyloric sphincter .The pyloric sphincter at the bottom of the stomach governs the passage of food out of the stomach into the small intestine

4/Gallstones are small stones that form in the gallbladder, a small organ found near the liver. There we’re the size of a large pea !

5/the vagal nerve -The vagus nerve, also known as the vagal nerves, are the main nerves of your parasympathetic nervous system. This system controls specific body functions such as your digestion, heart rate and immune system

Did you know !! Osteopaths are trained to screen the heart though taking blood pressure and listening to the heart via auscultation for any ununisal sounds as well as screening for musculoskeletal pathologies . Unusual heart sounds may be indicative of arrhythmias , diseased valves or coronary heart issues . High blood pressure (hypertension) can increase your risk of developing serious problems, such as heart attacks and strokes, if it's not treated or even measured :
