"Is this normal?"

If you've ever asked yourself this about your body after having a baby, you need to know about the Mummy MOT®.

It's a comprehensive check for your core, posture, and pelvic floor. It’s for all Mums—whether you're 6 weeks or 6 years postpartum! Stop suffering in silence and get the answers you deserve.

Swipe for our 6 most-asked questions about what the assessment involves and when to book.

Your 6–8 week check is essential, but it's a quick chat with your GP, not a full physical assessment. It’s there to tick the crucial boxes: How are you feeling mentally (very important), are your stitches or C-section scar healing, and what's the plan for birth control? It’s a health and wellness screening, but honestly, it’s often over in 15 minutes, and they aren't routinely getting in there to check the real damage. That's why so many of us feel totally lost about our bodies afterwards.

If you're leaking, have constant back pain, painful in*******se, or can feel that gap in your tummy muscles, that's your cue for a Mummy MOT. This is a private, deep-dive session with a specialist Women's Health Physio, (that's me!) We assess your pelvic floor strength and tone, measure your Diastasis Recti, and check your posture. It’s all about getting a personalised roadmap for recovery so you can safely build your strength back up and get back to living your life—not just surviving motherhood.

Did you know nearly half of all women experience abdominal or pelvic floor weakness after birth? Yet, the standard 6-week check-up often misses key details.

That's why I offer the Mummy MOT®—the comprehensive, gold-standard postnatal physiotherapy assessment by a specialist (that's me!) to get you back to feeling strong, confident, and completely in control.

What is a Mummy MOT?
It's a full-body check-up with a specialist Women's Health Physio, designed to assess and heal the areas most affected by pregnancy and birth.

What we check in detail:
- Posture & Movement: How you stand, feed, lift your baby, and move day-to-day.
- The 'Tummy Gap': An in-depth check of your Diastasis Recti (abdominal separation). We don't just measure the gap; we check the function to make sure your core can handle load.
- The Pelvic Floor: A gentle, voluntary internal assessment of your strength, coordination, and endurance. This ensures you're activating the muscles correctly, the foundation of all movement!
- C-Section & Scar Tissue: Examination and treatment/guidance for pain-free healing of C-section, episiotomy, or tearing scars.
- Symptom Screening: We screen for signs of prolapse, bladder leaks, or back/pelvic pain. Common doesn't mean normal—and it is treatable!

What you get:
A detailed, bespoke 📝 Postnatal Recovery Plan with safe, specific exercises and expert guidance on how to reach your fitness goals—whether that's running a marathon or just picking up a toddler pain-free.

Why Mobility Matters

Feeling stiff and stuck? Mobility plays a crucial role in various aspects of our lives, and limitations can significantly impact our physical and mental state.

Here's why mobility is so important:
1. Pain-free movement: Good mobility allows your joints to move through their full range of motion, reducing pain and stiffness in everyday activities.
2. Improved performance: Whether you're chasing a personal best or just chasing after the kids, better mobility can lead to better movement patterns and reduce your risk of injury.
3. Enhanced daily life: Daily tasks, from basic movements like bending down to more strenuous activities like lifting the weekly shop, become easier and more manageable when mobility is optimal.
4. Improved Balance and Stability: Enhanced mobility contributes to better balance and stability, reducing the risk of falls and accidents.
5. Psychological Well-being: When movement is unrestricted, it can positively impact mood, confidence, and overall sense of well-being.

Here are some ways to improve your mobility:
✅Regular Stretching: Incorporate daily stretching routines targeting various muscle groups to maintain flexibility and improve range of motion.
✅Strength Training: Building muscle strength provides better support and stabilisation for your joints, promoting optimal mobility.
✅Low-Impact Exercises: Activities like swimming, yoga, or Pilates are excellent choices to improve flexibility and range of motion without undue stress on your joints.

If you'd like our FREE 9 minute mobility flow routine, please DM us your email address and we will send it across! However, its always important to remember to start slow. If you would like a personalised plan, please contact us to book in. We can assess your individual needs and create a specific program for you to address any mobility limitations.

The Power Of Sleep

In the world of physiotherapy, countless evidence-based techniques promote healing and recovery. However, one often-overlooked factor plays a crucial role in optimising treatment outcomes: sleep!

Why is sleep so important for physiotherapy patients I hear you ask?!

- Enhanced Tissue Repair: During sleep, your body enters a state of repair, dedicating resources to rebuilding and strengthening damaged tissues, including muscles, tendons, and ligaments – crucial for your physiotherapy success.

- Improved Pain Management: Deep sleep facilitates the release of hormones like endorphins, the body's natural pain relievers, allowing for better pain management and a more comfortable recovery process.

- Cognitive Function and Motivation: Sleep deprivation can negatively impact cognitive function, decision-making, and motivation, which can hinder adherence to your rehab plan and hinder progress.

- Mental Wellbeing: Adequate sleep is essential for maintaining emotional balance and managing stress, both of which can significantly impact pain perception and overall well-being.

So there you have it, why prioritising sleep is a good idea alongside your physiotherapy plan as it can significantly enhance your recovery journey!

Yesterday, we celebrated your heart, the amazing muscle that keeps you moving and living life. But, the best way to show your heart some love is through consistent care, and one of the most powerful tools we have for that is... exercise!

The impact exercises has on your health goes far beyond enjoyment (although that's important too!)

Here's a closer look at the evidence-based advantages:

-Reduces Risk of Chronic Diseases: Exercises significantly lowers the risk of developing heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and a whole host of other diseases.

-Enhanced Cognitive Function: Exercise improves memory, focus, and executive function, leading to increased productivity and a sharper mind.

-Musculoskeletal Strengthening: Exercise builds and maintains muscle mass, this supports your bones and joints hereby improving bone density, posture, and balance. Think stronger, fitter, pain-free you!

-Improved Mental Health: Exercise is an important tool for managing stress, anxiety, and depression, leading to increased emotional resilience and well-being.

- Lung Health: Regular exercise strengthens your lungs, improving your breathing capacity and overall respiratory health.

-Boosts Metabolism: Regular exercise elevates your metabolic rate, even at rest, leading to increased calorie burning throughout the day and can contribute to weight management.

-Immune Boosting: Regular exercise strengthens your immune system, making you less susceptible to illness and keeping you fighting fit. Say goodbye to sniffles!

Find an activity you enjoy, lace up your shoes, and get moving! Whether it's a brisk walk, a dance class, or a team sport, every step counts.

But if pain or injury is holding you back, we can assess your situation, create a plan, and get you moving comfortably again.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Forget the chocolates and roses - today, we're celebrating your physical heart, the muscle that keeps you living, moving, and loving life to the fullest. ‍

Here's why your heart deserves some TLC:

❤️ It's a tireless worker: Your heart beats an average of 100,000 times a day, pumping blood throughout your body to deliver oxygen and nutrients. That's some serious work!
❤️ It's the key to fitness: Regular exercise strengthens your heart muscle, improving its efficiency and lowering your risk of heart disease, the leading cause of death worldwide.
❤️ It's connected to your well-being: A healthy heart goes hand-in-hand with a healthy mind and overall well-being. Taking care of it can boost your mood, energy levels, and stress resilience.

Show your heart some love today (and every day) with these simple tips:

❤️ Get moving: Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise most days of the week. Walking, dancing, swimming - find activities you enjoy! Every move counts towards a healthier, happier heart.
❤️ Eat heart-healthy foods: Fill your plate with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Limit saturated and trans fats, added sugar, and excessive sodium.
❤️ Manage stress: Chronic stress can take a toll on your heart. Practice relaxation techniques like yoga, meditation, or deep breathing. ‍
❤️ Listen to your body: Pay attention to any warning signs like chest pain, shortness of breath, or an irregular heartbeat. See your GP if something doesn't feel right.

From strengthening exercises to stress management techniques, we can help you show your heart some love.

❤️
