Those first few weeks of motherhood can feel like an utter whirlwind of emotions and more… if you’d like some support on your physical recovery (that in turn can help support your emotional wellbeing) then please don’t suffer in silence. Often just being listened too is one of the first steps to healing x

🌟NEW IN PERSON PHYSIO-LED PILATES CLASSES!🌟Starting with a couple of taster classes on 20th and 27th May before a 5 week summer block 3rd June-1st July at the gorgeous Loft space

🌟TUESDAYS- 2 morning classes and 2 evening classes each one with a slightly different flavour but all welcome!

These classes are for you if…

🌟 You’re returning from injury, childbirth, surgery and you’re no longer in significant pain- there may be occasional discomfort but you want to feel more confident in your body
🌟 You rush through life at a gazillion miles and hour and could do with a regular time in the week where you can switch off, move, relax and feel better for it!
🌟 You feel like you’ve lost your connection with your tummy muscles
🌟 You hold lots of tension in your back, hips, shoulders and want to just feel less uptight
🌟 You want to improve your balance to help you walk or run on the fells.. or just not fall over!

I could go on but essentially there’s something for everyone so have a look at the descriptions and any questions just send me a DM or email rosanna@physiointhelakes.co.uk

The way I see my role particularly working with people who are experiencing persistent pain is to hold space.

We all emit energy and so the way I see ‘holding space’ is like giving you permission to move, shift, acknowledge, absorb, pass on the energy(ies) within you… knowing that you’re in a safe space. Even like changing your posture, trying a new movement, facilitating some scar mobilisation is also related to this energy.. and so much of this happens without words.

Looking like a looney trying to chase after your kids whilst they’re on their bikes and you’re on your feet is a very real phenomenon in this thing called parenting 😂

I actually loved it this time but it’s not always been as easy.. I broke a bone in my foot earlier this year and it’s took a lot longer than I’d hoped to get back to running pain free.. also rewind the clock several years and I also experienced quite a lot of bladder leaking- which for me actually occurred pre kids as a teenage athlete.

Whether you’re in pain and not able to run/ walk as fast as you’d like/ need, and/ or you feel like you’re going to wet yourself know it doesn’t always have to be this way and thankfully both the worlds of pelvic health and pain science have moved on a lot since I was a teen.

If you’d like help or guidance then my DMs are open,
You can see me in person or online for virtual consultations ❤️

I am the biggest fan of movement - that is why I trained as a physiotherapist in the first place… it is absolutely core to who are are as human beings! I love walking, running, getting outside, moving in many different ways… and for most of us it’s not until we experience pain with movement or discomfort with doing something we could do ok before that we start wondering what’s going on.

Pain and movement is complex and there is often no one straight forward answer or 1 single solution because we are not robots and all of us move in different ways and our movements reflect not only the years before, but also can tell a story of what has happened to us or how we have used our body in many different experiences.

One of the most common things I see is fear related to movement - which totally makes sense, I mean why would we do something if it’s just going to cause us pain and discomfort…

That fear that served its purpose well in the beginning eg after surgery, an scute injury, childbirth etc can initially assist in protecting our body… but when we are several months down the line, perhaps we’ve had lots of tests- no broken bones, no obvious structural reason, no concerning signs etc, then fear can then become one of the barriers to returning to ‘easeful and joyful’ movement.

And this is where I love to help people… to use movement and the body (what’s called a ‘bottom up approach) as a way of giving information to our nervous system and helping people see that there is a way out and a way through this… and more often than not, this is without any form of massage or hands on touch. I’ve seen countless people return to walking/ running/ their joyful movement of choice knowing that they have been in the driving seat of their recovery… with some support from me along the way.

If this resonates with you, if you’re fed up with not being able to move how you really want to then please message me- you can come see me in person at The Helath Barn, or you can work with me online over zoom… which actually is incredibly effective .

Thank you! 🙏

💓AN EMPOWERED AND EMBODIED C-SECTION💓. You may ask yourself is it even possible to have a C-section birth that is actually a positive one, but also one which feels supportive from the inside out. One where you feel connected, and despite of what’s happening around you, you are able to cultivate and hold onto an internal groundedness and inner calm. I know there are a myriad of reasons for a C-Section and a lot of mums I see struggle with feelings of trauma, loss of control, disconnection, anxiety and hypervigilence.

C-Sections are on the rise, averaging 1/4 across the UK but this varies hugely. And I know not all C-sections are planned. But I’d love to help change some of the narrative around c-sections. There are wonderful charity’s, organisations and therapists offering lots of information , support and treatment for people pre and post c-Section.

I’d like to offer something a bit different but not at odds with what is already out there.

What If you could learn a bit about how you can support your nervous system before, during and after a C-Section… so you can go into it knowing you have developed some resources to help you?

So that you can feel:
🔵 More connected to your birth story
🔵 A greater sense of agency and control
🔵 More familiar with sensations that may arise in your body before and during your C-section
🔵More empowered knowing how incredible your body is
🔵 More resourced and grounded from within yourself

These strategies are more like a little toolbox of tips for you to try and dip into, seeing what works for you. 5 options is a lot better than no options!

So if you’re curious to find out more, please sign up to my webinar workshop (link in bio)

It’s FREE, it’s 1 hour of your time and it will be recorded for people who’ve signed up to it for 2 weeks after.

If you work with pregnant people or are just curious about how nervous system work can be so paramount to the birthing process please join too.

And although this session will specifically focus on C-Sections, what you learn can be applied to any birth

Comment ME and I’ll send you the link direct ###.

⚖️ BALANCE ⚖️

Don’t you think so much of life involves balance?

In my own life.. some of a few ‘balancing acts I’m doing’ include areas such as
🌟Work
🌟Childcare
🌟Diet
🌟Exercise
🌟Play
🌟Studying
🌟Phone time/ screen time
🌟Alone time (definitely not getting much of that right now!)
🌟Sleep (also not as much as I’d like)
🌟Hydration
🌟Thinking about the future

Not exhaustive and some days feel fairly ‘unbalanced’ but I’m trying to be more present, and notice the things I do have some control over.. such as where my thoughts are going, and choosing to go to bed early . With recovery from any physical or mental issue, balance is also key…. Drawing from the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of our lives.

Practically… I am going to be running an online Pilates Based membership around the theme of balance..

Starting in May!

More details emerging very soon 😊

💠Back Pain- a very common problem I help solve 💠

If you’re a Cumbria local, you can book online by visiting the Health Barn booking link in my bio… or calling 01931 712300

A lot of people think that in order to treat back pain you have to be physically in the same room as me… but especially since 2020 there’s been a growing space for online virtual help for back pain and this is what I help with too. Your own personal story will tell me far more information than you realise, and most of the coaching I do for persistent back pain has taken place online. So if you’d prefer to work with me from the comfort of your own home please drop me a message or email me rosanna@physiointhelakes.co.uk

Thanks x
