We are programmed to deal with short term stress to ensure that we have the resources we need for emergency situations. Our sympathetic nervous system gets activated, our heart rate and blood pressure goes up, our muscles tense and stress hormones are released into our body to prepare us for fight or flee. When the danger passes our body will quickly return back to homeostasis, a normal balanced state.
In our modern day society many of us have stress hormones circulating in our body on a regular basis. Are you in the habit of remembering stressful situations from your past or anticipating stressful situations in the future? Repetitive short term stresses merge into long term stress and we are then living in survival mode. We lose vital energy that so we have less energy for cell growth, repair and healing.
Long term stress has been linked to ; anxiety, depression, digestive disorders, memory loss, insomnia, hypertension, heart disease, cancer, colds, flu, aging, allergies to name a few.
I would like to share Michael Singers video "Are you wasting your energy?"
If you are trying to hold everything together, see everything as threatening and live in stress mode, when you start to let go and empty out you will free up so much energy that you will have the energy, enthusiasm, sparkle of a young child and your energy will raise the energy of every moment that unfolds in front of you!
It is amusing to see our human tendencies and habits.
When we have the awareness of what has brought us to where we currently are we can then make new choices, develop new habits and move towards a brighter and healthier version of ourself and enjoy better health and vibrancy
