Baby T was a whopping 11lbs VBAC home birth, supported by amazing independent midwives. She believed, she felt safe, she let go, and she birthed her baby. In honor of here are some older photos of me and my babies on our breastfeeding, cloth nappy and baby wearing journeys.

This year’s global theme is, “Prioritise breastfeeding: Create sustainable support systems” and for me having a village of family and friends held me through some tough days and weeks made all the difference.

As a breastfeeding counselor and doula i now try and be that village and safe place or others. Don’t ever feel you have to be alone, always reach out.

Two beautiful birth spaces set up at home for their vaginal births after section!
Your birthing environment and those you surround yourself with is so important so that you feel you can truly let go, trust your body and instinctively birth your baby. Investing time, research and doing all physical and emotional preparation beforehand can NEVER be underestimated.

Two beautiful M shaped baby bums 🥰 One a week old, another three months.

For their safety babies must be held snugly in an upright position with their chests supported against the parent at all times. There should be no gap between you and baby so they cannot slump forward, the “gentle J shape” is a good way to think about it – baby’s spine is supported upright with head up, and there is a curve at their lower back and bottom for them to sit comfortably in a seated squat position, the “M shape“. This can also be created by the “pelvic tuck”, ie rotating baby’s hips at the pelvis to bring their knees up and their bottom down to create the “froggy” M shape.

Did you know us Doulas love to work together to support you and your family to the best of our ability’s.

Myself and worked together to navigate Lydia’s birth and postpartum journey, she covered me while I was unavailable, which meant Lydia always had in person support when she needed it.

Shared care has huge benefits for some family’s as it involves two doulas who can support you with both their own individual skills and experience alongside sharing the on call period, and supporting postnatally, and it doesn't cost double!
