🌿 What is a Doula?

For me, being a doula is all about continuity of care — being a steady, familiar presence through pregnancy, birth, and beyond.

Someone who really knows you, and is there every step of the way. 💜

A doula isn’t a medical professional — and that’s such an important distinction.
I don’t perform checks or make medical decisions, and I don’t replace your midwife or doctor.
My focus is purely on you — your emotions, your comfort, your confidence, and your connection to your birth experience.

Midwives are highly skilled medical professionals. Their role is to look after the safety and wellbeing of you and your baby, guided by clinical care and medical guidelines.
They do amazing work — often within busy shifts, hospitals, and systems.

A doula, on the other hand, isn’t ruled by those systems.
I’m led by you — your voice, your needs, your birth preferences.
I offer emotional and physical support, an understanding of how birth works physiologically, and gentle advocacy when it feels hard to speak up.

I’m the person who stays with you.
Who listens deeply.
Who reminds you of your strength when things get wobbly.

Your calm.
Your cheerleader.
Your consistent presence. 💜🧡

“Do you only attend home births? - No

“Would you come to hospital if I transferred? - Of course, Im where you are.

“Do you support elective cesarian sections?” - Yes, if it’s your choice and fully informed decision.

In all birth situations it’s SO important that you make “fully informed decisions”. This is choice made after a mother or family has gathered all relevant information, understood the potential risks and benefits and alternatives of each option, and considered the decision in light of their personal values and preferences. This process involves understanding the facts, weighing the evidence, identifying alternatives, and taking action. The goal is to achieve a successful outcome that is aligned with the individual’s priorities.

Do you know what this chemical symbol is, and why I got it as tattoo?

Because I LOVE oxytocin, it’s the hormone responsible for bonding, trust and connection. It stimulates uterine contractions during physiological labour and promotes milk production when breastfeeding. Putting it simply it’s amazing and should never be underestimated or misunderstood.

To learn more about how to protect oxytocin during labour, birth and postpartum book a 1-1 antenatal birth education session with me today!

I'm often asked, "When do you start working with families?" or "Where do you provide birth support?" My answer is always the same: when they need me, and wherever the mother feels most safe and calm. Some families bring me in from the very start, while others reach out at 37 weeks. My approach is flexible and supportive, with no predetermined agenda or journey. I provide educational, emotional, and physical support that's tailored to each family's unique needs. As your biggest cheerleader, I offer continuous care throughout pregnancy, birth, and the fourth trimester. Let's build a supportive village together, get in touch.

Two beautiful birth spaces set up at home for their vaginal births after section!
Your birthing environment and those you surround yourself with is so important so that you feel you can truly let go, trust your body and instinctively birth your baby. Investing time, research and doing all physical and emotional preparation beforehand can NEVER be underestimated.
