My Community is a Royal initiative brought to thanks to funding. We are employed by , our aim is to work with the community to find out what is good, what could be better and use co production to help make Penrith a better place for people with a learning disability and everyone to live. We work with other groups and occasionally you will see us promoting events from other groups that we have supported, either through co producing something new or by funding Launch events.

On World Down Syndrome Day, we're highlighting how your donations are supporting babies born with Down Syndrome at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust ๐Ÿ’œ

A Down Syndrome diagnosis can be an overwhelming and unexpected moment for new parents. Until recently, families would leave hospital with a bulky A4 information pack, practical, but often too much information, too soon.

Thanks to your donations, the Learning Disability Team has introduced baby suitcase initiative, with small, beautifully prepared cases offered to families as early as possible in their journey.

Each Baby Suitcase includes:
๐Ÿ‘ถ Gentle baby items
๐Ÿ“˜ Positive, trusted information about support networks
๐Ÿ“– A storybook to help siblings understand
๐Ÿ’› A softer, more thoughtful way to begin this new chapter

Adapted from a model created by Carlisleโ€‘based charity Diffโ€‘Ability, these suitcases offer something families can return to in their own time, once they're ready.
