🌿 Hi everyone, I’m Colette, Registered Care Manager here at Eden Country Care 👋

Working alongside older people every day has taught me something truly powerful: aging is a privilege — and with the right approach, it can be filled with dignity, joy, and purpose. 💚

Here are my top tips for aging well and with dignity:
✨ Care for your body – keep moving, eat well & don’t skip check-ups
🧠 Keep your mind active – stay curious & connected
💬 Nurture your emotions – talk, share & lean on others
🏡 Stay independent – adapt your home & routines to suit you
🎨 Keep creating – whether it’s hobbies, volunteering or something new
🙏 Practice gratitude – notice and appreciate the little things
📝 Plan ahead – it brings peace of mind for you and your loved ones

At its heart, dignity in aging means respecting yourself, valuing your journey, and finding joy in everyday moments. 🌸

💬 I’d love to hear from you – what’s your top tip for aging well?

Home Care isn’t just about support at home, it’s about kindness, dignity and feeling truly valued.

For over 20 years, we’ve been providing compassionate care across Cumbria, approved by both Adult Social Care and the NHS.

We feel incredibly lucky to provide care across Cumbria and see views like this every day. This stunning sunset was captured at Skenkrith, near Kirkby Stephen. It’s a beautiful reminder of the amazing place we call home.

Four seasons in one shift? Welcome to Cumbria. ☀️🌧️🌈

Home carers know the drill: one minute it’s sunshine, the next you’re wiping rain off your glasses, and by the time you get to your next visit, there’s a rainbow over the fells.
Whatever the weather, we’re out there making a difference. 💙

5 Simple DIY Fixes to Make Home Safer 🏡

When someone you love lives alone, small changes can make a big difference to their safety and independence.
Here are five quick, inexpensive DIY tips you can do today:

1️⃣ Stop Slips in the Bathroom – Add non‑slip mats inside and outside the bath or shower.
2️⃣ Light the Way at Night – Plug in motion‑sensor night lights in hallways, bedrooms, and bathrooms.
3️⃣ Make Rugs Safer – Use non‑slip underlay or carpet tape to stop rugs sliding.
4️⃣ Reduce Kitchen Risks – Store most‑used items at waist height to avoid bending or climbing.
5️⃣ Everyday Grip Helpers – Rubber jar openers and non‑slip mats make cooking and eating easier.

These small changes take minutes but can prevent falls and injuries and bring peace of mind for families.

💬 What’s your top home safety tip? Share it in the comments; your idea might help someone else.

Learning to Support More People at Home
In our training room this week, Wendy, Jackie and Leslie learned the specialist skill of PEG feeding, guided by Ashleigh from Nutricia.

This training means our team can safely support clients who receive nutrition through a feeding tube, helping them stay comfortable and cared for in their own homes.

It’s another example of our carers going the extra mile for the people in our community. 💙

Derek hasn’t said a word in years… until Robbie and Mia visited. Holding his hands (and their PPE like little pros), they swear he whispered: ‘Always wear your gloves… and eat biscuits whenever offered.’ We can’t argue with Derek’s wisdom...
