Fantastic weightlifting seminar by .gemmell sharing the floor with some incredible athletes.

Always good to work on my weaknesses in a productive and knowledgeable environment.

The seminar culminated in a lift off 🚀 competition judged to very strict Olympic lifting standards. A dubious sn**ch that fell short of the standard would have been a PB and a Clean & Jerk PB obtained!

This time last week I was neck deep in my first proper CrossFit competition with . This workout was an interesting balance of speed vs weight! In 5 minutes we lifted 7000kg in weight. That excites me! Thanks James for being a wicked partner! 📸

From fog to sunshine 🌫➡️☀️
Hadrian’s Wall Trail Half Marathon tested every muscle and every mile — but finishing felt incredible.
Last Sunday’s Hadrian’s Wall Half was one for the books — started out in fog so thick I could barely see the trail, finished with sunshine on Tyne Green.
Tough, beautiful, unforgettable.
Thanks for .a.hastie and for the company, motivation and encouragement! Also for keeping us entertained on the bus and trail along the way!

It was a pleasure sharing the floor with in strongman comp this weekend. Waaaaaay out of my comfort zone but absolutely loved every second! Admittedly some was very much type 2 fun!

We lifted, pulled, carried and threw around some heavy s**t. A particular highlight for me was pulling a 2 tonne truck with an extra 600kg of sandbags loaded in the back of it!
Also smashed my back squat Pb - the power of competition adrenaline!

Thanks to for putting on a wicked comp and to for capturing my better sides! 🤣🤣🤣🤪

The lesson here is to have a go, even if you think you’re not good enough of strong enough, you may just surprise yourself!

A loaded mountain bike training ride ahead of a trip I have planned later this year.
The helm wind (headwind) on route up High Cup Nick today was a true test of not only fitness, but also bike handling. The wind actually blew me clean off my bike at one point!
Full bike packing setup was very heavy but the descent was A LOT of fun!! Cooked brakes, arm pump and smiles for miles! 😁😁😁
Thanks to for driving over and for taking so many lovely photos

A week of migraines called for one of my favourite modalities.

Acupuncture can have a profound affect at helping down regulate the nervous system, calming the tissues, relieving pain, relieving muscular tension and opening the body’s natural drugs cabinet.

Endorphins for pain relief
Serotonin and dopamine - the happy hormones
Melatonin to help regulate and improve your sleep

This client reported her migraine symptoms reduced significantly following treatment.

An MCL sprain in clinic this evening.
No know mechanism of injury and still able to function well.
Needling technique called ‘circle the dragon’ to encourage the body’s own natural healing processes and pain relief.
Pair that with some k-tape for a comforting taping technique to apply proprioceptive sensory input and some slight decompression to the area.

Runners!!

Runners can benefit from massage and acupuncture for several reasons, as both practices can enhance recovery, prevent injury, and improve overall performance. Here’s why:

1. Muscle Recovery and Relaxation

• Massage: Regular massages help reduce muscle tension and soreness after long runs or intense training. By improving blood flow to the muscles, massage aids in faster recovery, reducing stiffness and promoting relaxation.
• Acupuncture: This technique helps reduce muscle tightness by stimulating specific points to release tension. It can target deep muscles and areas that are difficult to reach through massage, leading to quicker recovery and less muscle fatigue.

2. Improved Flexibility and Mobility

• Massage: Deep tissue and sports massages can improve flexibility by loosening tight muscles and breaking down adhesions (knots) that restrict range of motion.
• Acupuncture: By targeting key energy points, acupuncture promotes better circulation and flexibility, allowing runners to maintain greater joint mobility and muscle elasticity, which is crucial for injury prevention.

3. Injury Prevention

• Massage: Regular massage therapy can help identify tight areas and imbalances before they lead to injury, such as IT band syndrome or plantar fasciitis. Massages can also increase body awareness, helping runners recognize when they’re overtraining or misaligned.
• Acupuncture: Acupuncture can address early signs of injury by reducing inflammation and improving circulation to problematic areas. It is often used to manage conditions like shin splints or Achilles tendinitis before they worsen.

4. Pain Management

• Massage: By reducing tension and promoting relaxation, massage can alleviate common sources of running-related pain, like lower back or knee pain.
• Acupuncture: It is known to stimulate the release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers, providing relief from chronic pain and acute injuries in a non-invasive way.

“I’m feeling very Olympic today…”

The Olympic Games are special for several reasons:

1. **Historical Significance**: Originating in ancient Greece around 776 BC, the Olympics have a rich history that has evolved over millennia. The modern Olympics, revived in 1896, continue this legacy.

2. **Global Unity**: The Games bring together athletes from around the world, promoting international cooperation and understanding. They symbolize the possibility of global unity and peace through sport.

3. **Showcase of Excellence**: The Olympics are a pinnacle of athletic achievement, where the world’s best athletes compete. They highlight human physical and mental endurance, skill, and dedication.

4. **Cultural Exchange**: Host cities and countries showcase their culture, traditions, and innovations. The Games provide a platform for cultural exchange and mutual respect among diverse nations.

5. **Inspiration and Legacy**: The achievements and stories of Olympians inspire millions globally. The Games leave a lasting legacy in host cities through infrastructure development, economic impact, and enhanced global reputation.

6. **Symbolism and Ritual**: The Olympic symbols, such as the rings and torch, along with ceremonies like the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, imbue the Games with a sense of tradition and grandeur.

These factors together make the Olympic Games a unique and cherished global event.
