World Book Day is this Thursday, and if you're anything like me, it's not your favourite day of the year either. I've written a blog post with some easy last minute costume ideas that you can probably create using the things you have at home.

I think the hard work has been worth it, don’t you?

When I look back at those earliest cards I do cringe a bit, but it’s a great reminder of how far we’ve come.

Back when we started making laser cut greetings cards in 2008, we really were just figuring things out.

Our first designs were simpler, unrefined and unplanned. Back then we just turned my doodles into cards, no plan, no thoughts about who might buy them or what for. We had no real process, no set colour options and no photography skills.

Thankfully we’ve learned a thing or two since then.

Now we have refined, finished designs with purpose, a recognisable style (we hope!) and a colour selection that we adore.

If you’re at the start of a creative journey, keep going.

Oh, and document everything so you can see how far you’ve come 🙌💪🥰

Good work ain’t cheap, and cheap work ain’t good.

The thing is, when people decide to save a few quid by buying the cheaper copies of genuine artists’ work, it really does damage the original artist’s business.

Not only that, but the cheaper alternatives are also never going to be as high quality.

If someone has decided to save themselves some time and effort by copying someone else’s design, where else might they cut corners?!

I’m gonna hazard a guess and say they might use cheaper materials, cheaper equipment that doesn’t quite have the same results, and they are probably not emotionally invested in creating the product.

When you buy one of our cards, you’re also buying our time, effort, attention and experience. We have, between the 3 of us here at Pogofandango, a collective 15 years at art school. We also use the best laser cutters and the highest quality materials.

So, what I’m trying to say is:

If you want crappy quality, disappointment, inevitable landfill-fodder and to save yourself a couple of £- sure, go for the copies (you do you- no judgement here 😉)

But if you want high quality, well made, original design that will last and give you good vibes and happy feels, invest in the original item. 💖💪🙌

Is anyone else OBSESSED with handwriting?!

I love everything about handwritten notes - they are a personal connection between the sender and recipient. Handwritten letters may be considered old-school, but I say bring back snail mail 🐌💌

2025 was the year that almost made me quit.

It felt like one massive hit after another.

We were working in a building that was falling down around us (we actually had indoor guttering to catch the leaks 😱)

We weren’t able to send our cards to customers in NI or EU anymore, which was about 20% of our income, and then the US tariffs came in and swiped another 10% of our customer base.

That combined with rising costs and a failing postal system left me wondering why we were bothering. We were still getting enough orders to keep going, but it just didn’t feel worth the struggle.

That was until I started looking at our why- our customers’ reactions to our cards.

Our cards are more than just pieces of paper. They help our customers to celebrate their most important people’s most important moments. They offer a space to express their love and show how much they care. They really matter.

One lovely customer even drove to us from the next county to collect a card for her granddaughter’s 18th birthday! That was a 100+ mile round trip! Seeing her reaction to the card made me realise that I couldn’t possibly quit.

So we decided to ride the storm.

We can now send to NI, EU and US again, we have a new workshop and I’m coming out of my ADHD burnout thanks to some life-changing medication, self-care and support from family.

2026 feels brighter. And we’re about to launch a whole new collection of new products- something we’ve never done before!

I’m so glad I didn’t quit.
