Martin Rigby Counselling

Martin Rigby Counselling I provide accessible, confidential and person-centred counselling for a wide range of issues. I help clients explore personal issues in a safe space.

I am a qualified counsellor and a registered member of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). I provide confidential face-to-face and online counselling (via Facetime and Skype). All face-to-face counselling sessions will be held in the peaceful setting in the Ashton Remedy Centre, Ashton on Ribble, Preston. I offer flexible daytime and evening counselling appointments (see

my opening times). You can book an initial appointment to see me by phone or email and I will usually be able to see new referrals within five working days. The initial counselling session lasts 30 minutes, is free of charge and gives us an opportunity to explore why you feel you would like counselling, if counselling is right for you at this time and whether you feel we can work together. You can choose to have an initial counselling appointment either face-to-face or online. Following an initial appointment you will have time to think about if you would like to continue. If you decide you would like to continue with counselling, in the first session we will make a counselling agreement. This is a working agreement which we will both sign which covers important aspects of our work together including the counselling approach I use, confidentiality, my fees, cancellation policy and your aims for counselling. All face-to-face and online counselling appointments last for 60 minutes and cost £35 per hour. I offer a range of special offers for all clients throughout the year and specific concessions for disabled people, student counsellors and clients experiencing financial hardship. Please keep checking my page for further information and updates. If you wish to find out more about how counselling could help you or you would like to book an initial session, please contact me on the contact details listed on this page. As I develop my services I will be regularly updating the information here so watch this space.

Research shows that 1 in four adults and 1 in 10 children will experience a mental health issue at some point in their lives but in reality the figures are probably a lot more. While it may be true to say that there is a growing awareness about mental health, the “black dog” and a wide variety of anxiety disorders and more people than ever before are talking about how they feel, there is still a lot of stigma about mental health across different age groups, genders, cultures and abilities. The Covid pandemic, cost of living crisis and daily life stuff continues to have a huge impact on people’s physical, emotional and mental health. There are many people who are dealing with their mental health difficulties in isolation, scared to go out or reach out for fear of being judged or a lack of support. But starting a conversation about mental health could be a life changer…

Today is an opportunity for people, families, work colleagues and the community to come together to break the silence on mental health and change lives. To mark this day I’ve recorded a video especially to do my bit to raise awareness. Please watch me talk about my own personal and professional experiences of mental health, what the benefits of starting to talk about your mental health can be and what you can do in your own way, today and every day, to make a difference
