🔵MOUTH CANCER ACTION MONTH | November

Mouth cancer is one of the fastest-growing cancers in the UK - and awareness saves lives.

📊 Key Facts:

- 10825 people in the UK were diagnosed with mouth cancer last year.
- Worldwide mouth cancer affects 650000 per year
-78% of cases occur in the over 55 age group.
-More people die from mouth cancer than from testicular and cervical cancer combined.
- 25% of cases have no associated risk factors.
- Mouth cancer is TWICE as common in men than women, though an increasing number of woman are being diagnosed with the disease.

⚠️Risk factors:

- To***co use is the main cause of mouth cancer.
- Drinking alcohol to excess can increase risks four fold
- Drinking & smoking together can make mouth cancer up to 30 times more likely to develop
- The Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), transmitted through oral s*x, could soon overtake alcohol and to***co as the main risk factors.

👄 Know the signs:
- A mouth ulcer that doesn’t heal after 3 weeks
- Lumps or swellings in the mouth or neck that persist for more than 3 weeks
- Red or white patches that do not heal
- Unexplained numbness or pain
- Persistent hoarseness or difficulty speaking/swallowing

🚨Early detection saves lives.

Check your mouth. Know the signs. Encourage others to to do the same.

As part of your routine examination, our dentists, will check for any signs of oral cancer.

Last Wednesday our lovely Jess joined by Claire and Nadine from Penryn Dental Practice had the privilege of visiting the the Cornwall Air Ambulance Charity Trust. They were there to give a donation raised by the Cornwall Dental Practitioners.

The Cornwall Air Ambulance is funded entirely by charity donations. Whilst there the ladies saw just how important the Cornwall Air Ambulance is and came away feeling motivated to continue raising money for this excellent cause.

Lolly!

Lolly joined The Bay in February 2020 and has been a valued part of the team ever since! She began her journey with us as a receptionist and eventually became practice manager!

After having her little girl last year,Lolly decided to step into an assistant managers role,so she can dedicate more of her time to her family.

She loves working alongside our amazing team and engaging with patients every day - always striving to create a welcoming environment and bring smiles to everyone she meets.

Outside of work, Lolly enjoys staying active and spending quality time with her friends and family.
