There are lots of places where you can get help for illness and injury. Do you know where is best this Spring?

➕ Pharmacy 💚
A pharmacy can help with a wide range of minor illness, and provide all sorts of services and advice. Most now offer the Pharmacy First service which provides treatment for 7 common conditions, without the need for a GP appointment.

Find your nearest open pharmacy 👀⬇️

🤕 MIU 🦴
Minor Injury Units and the Urgent Treatment Centre (West Cornwall Hospital, Penzance) are for help with injuries that need urgent attention but are not a life or limb emergency. Always check open times, x-ray and live wait times before you go: https://www.cornwallft.nhs.uk/miu-waiting-times/

Think:
✂️ cuts that need stitches
📷 suspected broken bones
🔥 minor burns and scalds
👁️ eye problems.

Open evenings and weekends, x-ray services, no appointment needed.
Always check open times, x-ray and live wait times before you go:

💻 NHS 111 online 📱
If you need help for something non-urgent and it can't wait until your GP surgery is open, or if you're unsure of what service you need, use NHS 111 online for help 24 hours a day. You can also call 111.

You will be directed to the most appropriate care, with call back from a clinician if it's needed.

🚑 999 📞
Always call 999 or visit the emergency department if it is a genuine emergency that is life- or limb-threatening, such as chest pain, major blood loss, loss of consciousness.

🤧If you are unwell with norovirus please don’t go to a health setting such as the emergency department and our minor injury units or visit a loved one in hospital.

We understand that recent news reports about the meningitis outbreak in Kent may be concerning for parents and staff working with children and young people. There is currently no outbreak in our area and no local public health alert so currently there is no need for any additional actions.
UK Health Security Agency has said the programme may expand as they continue to assess the situation, but no broader rollout has yet been announced.

If you’ve been advised to check your vaccination history (e.g., by a university), you can view your past vaccines via the NHS App under your own GP health record.

💉MenB vaccination for this age group is only available privately and is not provided by GP practices.

This is an opportunity to remind parents of the importance of keeping routine vaccinations up to date.

Kernow Health are doing a catch-up programme for children in years 7 - 11 so to check your child’s vaccination status or book an appointment, contact them 📞 01872 221105

It's important to know the signs of symptoms of meningitis and septicaemia. Get more info from http://nhs.uk/conditions/meningitis . If you are concerned about symptoms, please contact NHS 111 or speak with a clinician.

📣 Farewell & Thank You, Dr Noor Hamad 💙
After many years of dedicated service, we are saying a very fond farewell to Dr Noor Hamad, who has left Perranporth Surgery.
Noor first joined us as a Foundation Year 2 doctor, completed her GP training here, and became a Salaried GP in June 2011, then GP Partner in 2021. Over the years she has been a hugely valued member of our team—bringing compassion, commitment, and exceptional care to our patients and community.
We know that both staff and patients alike will miss her greatly.
Although she is leaving her partner role, you may still see Noor back in the surgery from time to time working as a locum, which we’re sure will be warmly welcomed.
Please join us in wishing Noor all the very best for the future. 🌼
Thank you for everything, Noor. You will always be part of the Perranporth Surgery family.

Following the recent news reports here is some useful information.

*Meningitis can be very serious if not treated quickly.*

Symptoms of meningitis develop suddenly and can include:
- a high temperature (fever)
- being sick
- a headache
- a rash that does not fade when a glass is rolled over it (but a rash will not always develop)
- a stiff neck
- a dislike of bright lights
- drowsiness or unresponsiveness
- seizures (fits)

These symptoms can appear in any order. *You do not always get all the symptoms.*

Call 999 for an ambulance or go to your nearest A&E immediately if you think you or someone you look after could have meningitis or sepsis.

Trust your instincts and do not wait for all the symptoms to appear or until a rash develops.

*Someone with meningitis or sepsis can get a lot worse very quickly.*

The UK Health Security Agency has written a great blog explaining more here:

So what is harassment and stalking?
Harassment and stalking can be scary, confusing, and difficult to talk about. Both behaviours can leave someone feeling uncomfortable, unsafe, or watched.
What matters most is how the person on the receiving end feels, not the intention behind the behaviour.
If something feels too much, too intense, or too intrusive, it’s important to take it seriously.
You deserve to feel safe, respected, and in control.

March is Autoimmune Disease Awareness Month!
This month helps shine a light on autoimmune conditions — including autoimmune forms of arthritis like rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, juvenile arthritis and more.
➕ Autoimmune diseases occur when the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy cells.
➕ Autoimmune arthritis can cause pain, swelling and stiffness that impact daily life.
➕ Early diagnosis and appropriate care can make a meaningful difference.
➕ Awareness and support help reduce isolation and improve understanding.
