Campaigners are urging the government not to abolish Education and Healthcare Plans (EHCPs) for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

While the government says that it is reforming the system in order to 'strengthen' support for children with SEND and that it has been listening to parents and families, their failure to rule out scrapping EHCPs has campaigners worried that some children could lose access to education altogether.

Find out more about this, the EPI's annual report 2025 which highlights the 'widening disadvantage gap' and calls for education staff to undergo mandatory training in learning disabilities and autism, here: https://www.firstresponsetraining.com/children-with-special-educational-needs-could-lose-vital-support

Last week, the UK government published the NHS 10 Year Plan, setting out key reforms for the future of healthcare in England.

This plan, developed over 8 months in consultation with thousands of healthcare staff and members of the public, outlines three "radical shifts" to ensure the sustainability of the NHS for years to come, with a new operating model, new approach to quality and transparency and new financial strategy.

While many commentators in the health and social care sectors have welcomed the key principles of the plan, some critics have highlighted significant gaps.

Paula McGowan OBE hit out at a lack of detail around learning from avoidable deaths, particularly those of people with learning disabilities and autistic people, whose health needs are potentially at risk of being deprioritised.

It's World Wellbeing Week, organised by WellBeing World.

Now in its seventh year, World Wellbeing Week aims to support and promote individual wellbeing across all parts of life. In the UK, charity Mates in Mind say the international awareness event provides the perfect opportunity to break the silence and stigma that still surrounds mental ill-health in the workplace.

With almost half of all cases of work-related ill-health being due to work-related stress, depression and anxiety, and poor workforce health costing UK employers an estimated £150 billion each year, it's more important than ever that we focus on all aspects of worker health, safety and wellbeing.
