Well that’s all folks - end of an era post coming up…..

After 20+ years I have decided it’s time to pack away my couch. I’m really proud of what I’ve achieved during this time - it feels a world away from the extremely basic massage course I completed back in 2001 which started me on this fascinating journey!

Thank you so much for all your good wishes, cards and gifts - I really appreciate it. But most of all thank you for placing your trust in me and for sticking with me through challenging times - including a ruptured Achilles, broken wrist, and of course Covid! It’s been a pleasure and a privilege, and I'm really grateful for your support over the years.

Very best wishes for 2024 and beyond - stay well, and keep those bodies moving!

How very true - and very weird…..!

How very true - and very weird…..!

In his recent book, ‘Exercised’, Prof. Daniel Lieberman explores the reasons why we had to invent the idea of exercise.

Exercise is not a natural instinct, it is a privilege of the Westernised, Educated, Industrialised, Rich, and ‘Democratic’ societies.

We ‘exercise’ to compensate for our lack of movement during the working day. And, despite knowing it’ll be good for us, most of us feel that reluctance to go to the gym.

The images are from a French book printed in the late 1800’s and shows early versions of exercise machines - there’s one for sawing, for planing, and, my favourite, one for digging (bottom right). Each of them just replacements for movement that we would do if we still ‘worked’.

Will the next round of ‘functional equipment’ have a vacuuming option, a bag carry, or a window cleaning reach for working those lats?

Why should we go somewhere special when we could just be doing more movement in our daily lives?

Think about it.
What are your solutions to getting more movement in your day?

Following on from the workshop I did last November, I've been deepening my understanding around treating scars. Did you know that massage can help integrate scar tissue to improve both the appearance and functionality of scars? Early results have been really encouraging, with even relatively mature scars responding well to treatment.
