A note from Dr James Rankin ( previous partner of Dr David Wilson at PMP)
Tribute to Dr David Wilson, General Practitioner, Pershore, 1965 to 1993.
It is with appreciation that I make this tribute to David who died peacefully on Friday 6 February 2026 in Heathlands Residential Home, Pershore..
Dr David Wilson (born on 25 April 1933) was a general practitioner in Pershore from 1965 until his retirement in 1993 aged 60. Affectionately known by all as ‘Dr David’ he was a very dedicated, compassionate and skilled man of family medicine with a particular interest in community obstetrics and in homeopathy. He had an impish sense of humour and an ability to influence those around him with candour and clarity of thought. He was a guiding influence within the practice and a caring and considerate general practitioner.
After graduating from Cambridge he came to join his brother, Marshall, in the family practice in 1965, then in the High Street, Pershore, (before moving to The new Health Centre in Priest Lane in 1975). Their father, John Cecil Wilson (the founder of the practice together with Neville Hine) had failing eyesight and had decided to retire. They were joined, as time passed, by Nigel Paine, Trevor Lloyd, Andrew Jackson, Tom Pitts-Tucker, Kate Edwards, Kate Young (Marshall’s daughter) and the author of this tribute. When David retired Chris Perks joined the partnership.
David married Sarah in 1962 and they had four children, Jo, Phil, Fran & Rosie. Sarah became the senior district nurse based in the practice so it really was a family affair! Sarah died after a long illness in 2024.
Sarah and David had many friends and they were known for their generosity and hospitality. They enjoyed gardening and lovingly restored Amerie Court, their house of many years, in Newlands. David was a keen barbershop singer. He was closely associated with Pershore Abbey, the Pershore Operatic and Dramatic Society and the Pershore Town Choir, to name but a few of his other activities!
Farewell David!
There will be a Service of Thanksgiving for David in The Pershore Abbey on Saturday 18 April at 2 pm. All will be welcome.
James Rankin (GP partner of David’s from 1991)
