Are you getting a restful nights sleep? Sleep is important. It’s our bodies way to relax and unwind. To allow tensions in muscles to relax and lengthen and gain their strength back.
Sleep affects almost every type of tissue and system in the body – from the brain, heart, and lungs to metabolism, immune function, mood, and disease resistance. Research shows that a chronic lack of sleep, or getting poor quality sleep, increases the risk of disorders including high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, depression, and obesity.
Yet so many people struggle to get a good nights sleep. Be it overthinking, restless, over tired, stressed.
So what can we do to help the situation?
⛔️ No blue light for between half an hour to an hour before going to bed. Blue light increases brain activity and reduces your melatonin which your body creates to help you relax and sleep.
⛔️ Caffeine is another one of those pesky things that keep you awake. Sure it tastes great, but did you know it’s recommended to drink your last caffeine drink between 2-3pm In order for the caffeine levels to drop sufficiently to help you sleep?
⛔️ Eating, this is something you should do at least 3 hours before you intend to go to bed. Not great news if you’re a snacker, but that snack could well be what stops you getting that blissful sleep
✅ Have a sleep routine. With this try to go to bed at the same time every evening. Even if you don’t sleep straight away. It helps to reprogramme your brain and recognise that time is sleep time. Persevere.
âś… Make sure your environment is relaxed. Clear the clutter, have the bed already made.
âś… Do a relaxation technique once lay down comfortable. Starting from the top of your head tense and relax each part of your body and slowly work your way down to your toes.
âś… Use a pillow mist. Scent can help relax the mind and the body, and help guide you into a deeper more restful sleep. Lavender is by far the most superior mist to use, and can be used in the corners of the room too. (Perfect for when children are struggling to settle and sleep too)
Hopefully this will help anyone who struggles with sleep.
I’m regards to pillow mist I use a specific one that works really well. And costs less than £6 which to me is incredible.
If you would like information on the pillow mist I use let me know.
Above all else, try the techniques above and see how you get on.
