Lunar New Year ๐๐ฎ๐๐ป
On the eve of the Lunar New Year, I want to share some wise words from my Qigong teacher Mimi Kuo-Deemer: Meditation, Qigong and Internal Martial Arts on the Fire Horse. These speak to my heart and my own experience of being with horses and also finding balanced fire within. This is a photograph of one of the horses close to my house. They are prize-winning, athletic horses but also have such a quiet beauty, a serenity and a shyness that touches something deep inside me. Sometimes while out walking my dog they come close and we stand close for a while just being here together. It reminds me that our animal cousins are sometimes so much easier to be around than humans.
So as social media becomes flooded with passionate Fire Horse memes today, I invite you to reflect on these words. On how Chinese 5 Element theory is not about excess of anything. It is about learning to live in harmony with all the elements - Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood - and all the beings we share this beautiful planet with. ๐ฅ๐โฏ๏ธ
"Contrary to some predictions I've read that the Fire Horse year brings some serious horsepower of galloping energy, big changes, and big emotions, it's just as possible that this coming horse year could reflect a more balanced expression.
Let's start with horses. They rarely gallop, and only do so when startled or forced. I've seen plenty of horses in nearby pastures and even wild ponies here in England's New Forest. Most of the time, they walk slowly and graze their way through the day. When left alone, they possess a grace, alignment, and freedom that is quite captivating to witness. They are calm yet alert, and highly in tune and responsive to their environment.
Yes, but what about it being a Fire Horse year? Well... Fire is not only about intense, passionate thrill-seeking. In fact, these are signs of excessive and imbalanced Fire. In classical Chinese 5 Phase theory, healthy Fire is about connection, maturity, and calm. It's keeping good company, being spacious and relaxed, and feeling like your spirit is bright."
