A family from Buckden raised £30k to refurbish a dedicated space for bereaved parents following the loss of their daughter.
Rachel Normanton, 33 and husband Alex, 34, received the devastating news that their unborn daughter Ruby had died, when Rachel was 28 weeks pregnant.
Rachel and her family spent precious moments with Ruby in the Meadow Suite, a dedicated room for parents who have experienced bereavement.
Rachel said: “It was an incredibly difficult time for us, and we appreciated the space and time to grieve, but the facilities were basic and clinical and in that situation, we just wanted to feel comfortable in a home environment.”
Rachel's mum-in-law, Lisa Normanton, also worked in Estates at the hospital and her experience prompted the family to start fundraising.
Lisa said: “We all wanted to help in whatever way we could and try and turn something heartbreaking into something positive. We were absolutely overwhelmed with the kind words and donations. As a result, we have managed to transform the Meadow Suite so families in the same situation as Rachel and Alex can feel comfortable in a home-from-home environment.”
The money raised has helped to completely transform the room and the Normanton family are continuing to raise funds to support the Trust’s Maternity Bereavement Services in the future.

Update on bone cement supply issue:
Following the recent news of the global shortage of bone cement most often used in joint replacement surgery, we can confirm that the NHS nationally has sourced alternative supplies which enables our hospitals to continue with our surgery lists as planned.
We apologise to those patients who were impacted over the course of the last few days and will endeavour to get their procedures rebooked as a priority.

You may have seen the news that there is currently a global shortage of bone cement, most often used in joint replacement surgery.
At Peterborough City Hospital, like other NHS hospitals, we are prioritising our use of bone cement to treat patients with the greatest clinical need which will enable us to preserve our current supply.
We are doing all we can to keep the impact of this issue to a minimum, but we will need to postpone some planned surgery over the coming weeks. We recognise how frustrating and disappointing this will be for patients who will have already waited a long time for their procedure.
If your surgery needs to be postponed, please be assured we will contact you directly. Thank you for your patience.

Handwashing is the best way to stop nasty germs from spreading.

Washing your hands frequently and thoroughly is one of the easiest ways to protect yourself and others from viruses - like norovirus and flu - and it helps reduce pressures on your local healthcare services.

Regularly wash your hands with soap and warm water and make sure you wash your hands for more than 20 seconds

Alcohol-based hand sanitisers are not effective against norovirus, so handwashing is essential
