Hormonal Headaches Are Predictable — Which Means They’re Treatable

If your migraines show up:
Right before your period.
Right after ovulation.
When sleep drops.
During stress spikes.

That’s not a coincidence.

That’s hormone-neurovascular interplay.

Estrogen fluctuates.
Blood vessels respond.
Inflammation rises.
Nervous system sensitivity increases.

You feel:
• Light sensitivity
• Nausea
• One-sided throbbing
• Brain fog
• Irritability before pain even starts

And here’s what makes this exhausting:
You can almost schedule it.
Which means you’re bracing for it.

And bracing increases stress.
And stress lowers your threshold.
And the cycle continues.

Hormonal migraines are rarely just “head pain.”

They’re regulatory instability.

We work on:
Hormonal rhythm.
Micro-circulation.
Inflammatory load.
Sleep quality.
Autonomic balance.

When those stabilize, frequency drops. Intensity drops.
Recovery time shortens.

If you’re planning your calendar around migraines, that’s your cue.

You should not lose days to something that’s predictable.

Carpal Tunnel Is Not Just “Too Much Typing”

If your hands tingle at night…
If you shake them out in the morning…
If gripping a coffee mug feels weaker than it used to…

That’s not just typing.

That’s nerve compression layered over inflammation.

Carpal tunnel often shows up in people who:
• Work long hours on devices
• Grip tightly under stress
• Sleep poorly
• Have hormonal shifts (especially perimenopause)
• Carry upper body tension constantly

The median nerve doesn’t get irritated in isolation.

It gets compressed when:
Tissue swells.
Circulation stagnates.
Stress increases inflammatory tone.

You might feel:
Numb fingers.
Burning in the palm.
Forearm tightness.
Dropping things more often.
Waking up with dead hands.

Left untreated, this progresses.

Strength decreases.
Fine motor control drops.
Surgery becomes a conversation.

Acupuncture improves:
Circulation through the wrist. Inflammatory load.
Nerve signaling.
Upstream shoulder and neck tension.

Because your wrists are part of a chain.

If your hands — the tools you use to build your life — are warning you, listen.

Don’t wait until numb becomes permanent.

I’m pleased to share that I am now a member of the International Association of Animal Therapists (IAAT).

The IAAT is a professional organization supporting qualified animal therapists who work to high standards of professional practice, continuing education, and ethical care within the animal therapy field. (www.iaat.org.uk)

For me, being part of the IAAT reflects the importance of continuing professional development, working appropriately alongside veterinary professionals, and providing thoughtful, evidence-informed care for the horses I work with.

As I begin offering equine massage and bodywork appointments through Peaks & Points, I’m looking forward to continuing to develop my skills and support horses within a professional and collaborative framework.

Please email me at peaksandpointsacup@gmail.com for equine massage appointments and visit www.peaksandpointsacup.com/equine-massage

Visited the Westbury White Horse recently and couldn’t resist stopping for a photo.

Even outside of work, horses somehow always seem to find their way into my life and one form or another

They’ve been a constant thread through the years – from childhood riding lessons, to eventing and dressage, to working in large animal, veterinarian settings, and now into equine massage and bodywork.

I think that lifelong connection shapes how I work with horses now – quietly observing, listening, and working with the individual horse in front of me rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

I am very excited to officially be offering equine massage appointments at the end of May .

Please reach out for questions or for booking at peaksandpointsa cup@gmail.com and please check out my website at www.peaksandpointsacup.com equine – massage

Shoulder Pain Isn’t Just Posture

It starts subtle.

You roll your shoulder in a meeting.
Switch sides carrying your bag.
Avoid sleeping on that side.

You tell yourself it’s just posture.

But here’s what I see every week:
• Outer shoulder pain that won’t fully resolve
• Pain reaching overhead
• Tingling down the arm
• Weak grip strength
• Tight traps that never release

Shoulders hold responsibility.
Literally and neurologically.

When stress is chronic, the upper body braces.
When boundaries are thin, the shoulders tighten.
When you’re carrying too much, the body compensates.

And if it’s been there more than 6–8 weeks?

It’s not “just tight.”
It’s inflammatory.
It’s compensatory.
It’s now a movement pattern.

The longer you wait, the more:
Neck pain develops.
Headaches increase.
Sleep gets disrupted.
Range of motion decreases.

We don’t just poke the sore spot.
We assess:
• Channel involvement
• Nervous system tone
• Referred patterns
• Inflammatory load
• Stress physiology

Because shoulder pain that lingers is rarely isolated.

If you’re modifying your life around one arm, that’s your sign.

Horses have been part of my life for as long as I can remember.

I came across this photo when I was around four years old on one of the horses I first learned to ride on. Since then, horses have shaped so much of my life – from writing and competing, a working with large animal, equine practices, and later training and equine bodywork.

Offering equine massage through Peaks and Points Acupuncture feels like a very natural extension of that journey .

There’s something special about being able to continue lifelong horse experience with the integrative approach. I’ve developed through acupuncture and body work over the years.

Now taking appointments from the end of May, and I’m very much looking forward to working with horses in the local area.

Perimenopause Weight Gain & The GLP-1 Conversation

Let’s talk about it.

GLP-1 medications are everywhere right now.

And for some people, they’re helpful.

But here’s what isn’t being talked about enough:
Middle-age weight gain is not just an appetite issue.

It’s a regulatory issue.

Common pattern in perimenopause:
• Weight shifting to the midsection
• Puffiness •
Slower digestion
• Increased inflammation
• Poor sleep
• Blood sugar swings
• More stress reactivity

You can suppress appetite.

But if cortisol is elevated…
If sleep is fragmented…
If estrogen is fluctuating…
If digestion is sluggish…
If inflammation is high…

The underlying terrain hasn’t changed.

And when medication stops?

The physiology is still there.

Some women also experience:
Nausea.
Reduced muscle mass.
Digestive shutdown.
Fatigue.

GLP-1 isn’t wrong.

It’s just not mandatory.

You can regulate:
Hormonal rhythm.
Insulin sensitivity.
Stress signaling.
Digestive efficiency.
Inflammatory load.

Without suppressing your appetite.
Without shutting down digestion.
Without long-term dependence.

Weight in perimenopause is often a stress adaptation.

When you calm the system, the body stops defending.

If you want metabolic support without medication side effects, this is exactly the work we do.

You don’t need to override your body.

You need to recalibrate it.
