It starts with an intent. Where am I going to put focus and effort. How can I do that gently and effectively in a way that is positive and supportive of myself. It isn't a pressure, it is a desire, something to be conscious of and move towards.
Me...?
I want to make a positive impact every day with every interaction.
Every day is different, some are harder than others and it does have to start with self-care. I want to be able to support people to be more positive, make more progress and gain greater understanding of themselves and how they can cope better, live better, be better.
We live in a complex world. It is not always easy. Asking for help is a strength in itself. We don't have to do it all on our own. Taking time out to look after yourself is important and can be an intent that we all adopt.

Prevention is better than cure. We need to look after ourselves in this complex world, we need to look after our children too.
If you have young children or grandchildren (3 - 10years?) then please go out and discover the joy of Tom Percival and his wonderful series of books!
I came across "The Wonder". Beautiful illustrations and a lovely message, relevant to any age.
Other books in the series are equally supportive - Ruby's Worry and Perfectly Normal cover worries, anxiety, being different. A fabulous set of resources to help us support our young people to grow up stronger and more resilient.
Take time to read it with them (often) and everyone comes away feeling lighter. Even better, it is not looking at a screen.
Thoroughly recommend - Enjoy them together.

I speak to people quite often who have suffered abuse in their past. Sometimes they have managed to process it and move on with their lives.
For others, the impact is as if it happened only yesterday, everyday, even tens of years later.
We are all shaped by events in our lives, positive and negative. The issue is if, for whatever reason, we don't fully process those events, they adversely affect us in the now. We need to own our past but we shouldn't have to be defined by our past.
If you are struggling to process events in your life, please reach out for help and support. Come and talk to me, the initial consultation is free, and at least explore the possibilities that hypnotherapy can offer to help you move forward more freely.

I agreed to attend a social quiz night!
Come the day, my primitive brain was really kicking off telling me all sorts of things.

"It is so much effort - just curl up on the sofa instead"
"You are rubbish at general knowledge."
"You are tired and would be better getting an early night."
"It's been a long week and you really are quite low."

To a degree, all these 'options' were true, but I had signed up for it and so, somewhat reluctantly, off I went.

In reality, it actually turned out to be a really good evening. A lot of effort had been made for the event. There were loads of lovely people there all just getting involved, and quite surprisingly I even knew the answers to some of the questions!

It is true, making the effort to do something outside our comfort zone usually benefits us in the long term because we are trying something different and breaking with existing patterns.
All the positive social interactions resulted in the release of beneficial oxytocin and endorphins which are free natural highs that lift our spirits.

Would I do another quiz night - I'll never be on mastermind, but for the social interaction and shared endeavours - YES 100%.

Scrolling is just too easy - it is designed to be. But it is not often helpful or healthy.
Instead of getting on with our own day, we are offered views of other people, other places. It is escapism but it is a very limited and unbalanced view.
If we need a break, it would serve us far better to sit down with a cuppa and share some time with a friend, or a book, or even a bit of day dreaming.
Absolutely we need downtime, but how we achieve it can make a huge difference to our well-being.

Words matter. Words have power.

Part of the process of solution focused hypnotherapy is to explain what is happening in our brains and why it responds in the way it does. This alone helps to empower clients to recognise how they have got to the point where they are at. Understanding the workings of the brain also help clients regain control and to begin to rewire their brain to more helpful patterns.

The words we use; the conversations that we have with ourselves; are massively significant towards how we view, cope and respond with life.

We are all different and what resonates with one person is different to the next.
In solution focused hypnotherapy we often use the phrase "life happens, it is how you respond that is important". Recently a client came in and said that for them, the equivalent statement that really resonated was "pain is inevitable, suffering is optional"

Choosing your words carefully; how you phrase your thinking; is a skill that can be learned and that will support you to respond better.

The small moments are really important.
Stop and take time to recognise them and celebrate them.
Simply sharing a smile and a laugh with someone is a gift.
Being pleased that you made the effort to get out for a short walk in the fresh air. A great little boost for your health and mental well-being.
Just getting one or two little chores done off your list. It is positive progress of getting on with stuff.
If you recognise all the things that are little wins through each day, you will be amazed at how much you actually achieve and how much more positive you can feel.
Take the time to realise that you are brilliant in lots of little ways.

Simple message, but why is it so hard to accept?
I am as guilty as anyone at self-sabotaging; being my own worst critic when I am tired or hungry.
Why should we be surprised when things don't always go our way. Why should they?
Learning to reframe things from a more positive perspective is a very valuable skill to develop.
Being grateful for what we do achieve, acknowledging that so much does go our way.
It does make the tired grumpy moments fewer and significantly more manageable.
How we think and what we focus on can make or break the day.
If you want to have more better days, drop me a message and see what solution focused hypnotherapy may be able to do for you.

My small change ...
I'm not going to allow myself to watch episodes/programmes back to back.
I find it just too easy at the end of the day to collapse in front of the TV and catch a few episodes of the latest series.
It is that primitive brain in the background saying "this is a safe non-threatening thing to do - you've earned this".
So, my small change?
I'm not going to deny myself the option, but... my new rule is, I must move between programmes. Go to the bathroom or kitchen. Look out of the window to actually see what the weather is doing.
At the very least, any movement is beneficial. At best... on occasions I might actually decide to get on with something slightly more productive, or even better, decide to go to bed earlier than I might have otherwise!
The next episode will always be there, but maybe I don't need to watch it now.
If you want to start making changes and would like some support, pop me a message.

We aren't super-human. We are often short of time.
That's why small steps, small acts are important.
Little things can be fitted in, they can be achievable.
Be pleased with any little thing that you manage to do towards your goals, your self-care.
The little things are important and they do add up.
Constant stress and anxiety is not viable in the long term. If you are struggling to find balance in your life, solution focussed hypnotherapy can help you to learn how to manage better.
