So, coming out the other side of Christmas, we are deluged by social media on how to "start over", "get fitter", "be healthier"!
Just take a breath, and be pleased with yourself. You are here, you turn up every day and you are doing what you can.
Sure, reflect on what you want; review what has gone well; be grateful for all that you do have.
You don't need to add pressure by having to make drastic changes.
When you are ready, if you choose to, you can take small steps to achieve more of what you want. But do it in your own time and in your own way.
If you need help and support to move in the direction that you want, fine, do some reading, or reach out to someone, but do it on your own terms, as your body and mind allows.
Most of all try to enjoy being you this January.

Sunrise over Bainton - looking glorious on these crisp winter mornings.
It is that time of year for reflection.
Perhaps don't over think it. What worked well in 2025 for you.
What would you like to do more of, what would you want less of going forward?
It is easier and more effective to build on your existing successes, making changes that feel right for you.
It's not wrong to have "big goals" but how do you make them feel achievable and realistic? Making small changes within your existing patterns is more likely to help you move forward towards a larger objective.
Change can sound difficult, progress can feel more possible.

We seem to put a lot of effort into Christmas.
It comes at a time of the year when many are struggling to remain positive and motivated. The long nights and poor weather do impact us without doubt.
But it gives us something to focus on. Yes it comes with a lot of baggage but if we focus on giving, sharing, social interaction, these are all massively positive and beneficial for us as individuals.
So why do we limit this effort to Christmas?
We would all benefit from positive social interaction, sharing, contributing throughout the year.
Building on the momentum that the Christmas period generates it would be a relatively simple step to carry the positive attitudes and actions on into the New Year, through January and beyond. Making positive contributions to your social circle will benefit both the giver and the recipient. Supporting others and yourself sounds like a great win win.

I don't follow Formula 1, but I was reading the report on Lando Norris winning the Drivers Title this year.
For all. the money, technology, support that goes into the sport, for Lando, the turning point was realising he needed to change and understand his thinking.
It didn't guarantee him the result, but it will have given him far greater capacity to manage himself through the competition. Capacity to stay curious, to stay positive, to be open to possibilities.
Our brains are amazing and our greatest asset - learning how to best harness our capabilities for our best interest is the real issue.

How often do we sabotage ourselves?
"I'm no good at that". "I can't do that". "I hate the way I look".
"I'm useless, everyone else is so much more...".

Why do we do this. It is one of those conversations in our head. It isn't anyone else telling us. It is us talking to ourselves!
How we think, what we focus on matters.
If we can turn the "can't" into a "can" or even a "could" then we are starting on a positive note, allowing for the potential that we might succeed, then the reality is that we are far more likely to succeed.
We are human, we are not perfect, but we do deserve to treat ourselves with the kindness and respect that we give to others.
Learn to be more supportive of your efforts. We won't always get it right but it feels far easier if we are being hopeful and optimistic.

It is amazing being able to work to support people who are wanting to make positive change in their lives. To watch them gradually take back control. To transform how they choose to think, act and respond. The results they achieve are amazing, recognising the value of what they have and the joys they can have in everyday life, even when life is not easy.
So much of life is lived in our heads and learning to understand and manage ourselves can literally be life changing. It takes time and focus but why shouldn't you take time for your needs?

We are often our own limiting factor.
Our brains are amazing, but they have default modes and defence modes. They are designed to help and protect us, but sometimes in this modern world our brains don't always correctly identify what is threat or not.
As a result our world can shrink. We stop feeling as confident and socialise less, become withdrawn. We might to start feel stress and then anxiety and find ourselves less able to cope. Our mind can impact our physical wellbeing, influencing IBS and IBD which in turn becoming limiting features of our lives.
If you want to expand your horizons, or simply get back in track with your hopes and aspirations, take time to understand how the brain works, and begin to develop strategies to help it work in your best interest.
Solution focussed hypnotherapy can support you to get back on track, and help you enjoy leading the life you want to lead.

Stand tall at the beginning of this week and be gentle on yourself.
Take a moment to acknowledge the progress you have made and allow yourself a little more confidence to go out and meet the day. You have the capacity to make it a good (even a great) day if you choose to look for the positives. The positives you possess and the positives you create through your day.

The training continues! Just back from a training run and I have to admit running is not my favourite activity. However, any exercise (even running) is good - both physically and mentally. So I set myself a goal - the Great Eastern Half Marathon on 12th October. I found some motivation - I told people I was going to do it, and I chose to support a charity - Peterborough Samaritans to raise both awareness and funds.
The result - I am exhausted but pleased. I am doing more exercise because of these choices than I would have done otherwise and I am supporting both myself and what I regard as a very worthy cause.
When we put things in place to support us and our objectives we are more likely to follow through and succeed.

Mindfulness can be a really useful tool to help you get the most from your day, but to be mindful requires you to be in a reasonably good headspace to properly achieve it.
More often than not, our heads are full of the pressures of daily life. The school run, getting the shopping, caring for elderly relatives, earning a living, pressures at work, not having enough sleep, and that's before the DIY, the garden the cleaning etc. etc..
So, before progressing to mindfulness, to help us regain some control, some perspective and more mentally balanced mind, instead try to commit to today.
We only have 24 hours in this day. Rather than seeing it a s a problem, how can you make it an opportunity. Yes, be in the day, yes commit to this day (it is the only one guaranteed at the moment) but commit to accepting that you will do your best, be pleased with what you do achieve and acknowledge that you are not superman/woman but you are trying your best and trying to enjoy the journey rather than stressing about what has not yet been achieved.
Be as happy and positive about today as you can manage and be surprised and pleased at how much more you do manage.
