Last Tuesday we went on a trip out with our ecologist friend Emma from Tiny Trees Childcare.
Emma had previously been on winter tree ID training and bat roost features. We went on a bat hunt with the children who absolutely loved it, they made stories up about Batman.
We spoke about where bats live and what to look out for. They like living in crevices in trees such as where a tree has broken or in old woodpecker holes.
During Emma's training she found a tree where two bats lived in a crevice where a tree had broken. We found the tree but unfortunately it was so damaged it wasn't there anymore.
Did you know that a lot of bats roost lower than head hight in trees and sometimes even right by the roots of the tree.
We are currently working on a What goes bump in the night Nature Study and Emma will be helping us with some facts and activities for this. This will be released in November.
