2022…. Am I late to the party? January doesn’t count in my book. It’s the non month to ease you in to the new year. Now February, I’m just about getting organised!!! I have been so absent from here, but for good reason. I have been working hard on what I want to achieve with my business. I deal with sensitive issues, no doubt about it. Every patient I see gets to tell their whole story and I listen. Time and time again I realise that part of the issue is that there is no information about Pelvic Health that’s clear and accessible. So much of what you are embarrassed by just isn’t talked about. It’s scary and it feels lonely, I am here to change that! So this year I will continue my clinics where I get to help so many of you, but I also want to get information to you. Clear, specialist clinical information about sensitive problems associated with the pelvis, pelvic floor and cancer recovery. Welcome to this safe space, let’s make our way through this year together as I cover all my areas of specialty. AND I am about to launch a new website that will make it easier for you to book appointments and find out more about what I do. Happy 2022 to all you all! ✨

Most people don’t know that pelvic health is a speciality of physio! Spring Physio infographics are great at promoting what we do ❤️👍🏼

Guess what? Pelvic health physios don't just teach kegels.

You may be struggling postnatally and wonder where you should go for help.....
Our bodies can feel completely foreign to us after giving birth. It can be scary and unsettling, especially when you feel sleep deprived and completely consumed by looking after another human being.

A postnatal MOT appointment is a great opportunity to get thorougly assessed. It's an appointment that's all about YOU; normally around 75 minutes (varies physio to physio) which means you have LOADS of time to discuss your postnatal concerns and for your physio to assess your pelvis and any other aches and pains you may have. *xmums *x

Really enjoyed this event last week with The Postnatal Nanny! Bryony had so many useful Physio tips to share from her own personal journey including:

- Using a support band postnatally (we recommend tubigrip)
- Taking it easy and listening to your body
- Using a water bottle to “spritz” postnatally after a wee
- What to do for that first postnatal poo!!

I spoke to lots of ladies and the most common questions were about pelvic floor and pelvic girdle pain!

Lovely to have met you all x

I would like to thank all of the patients that have used Specialised Physiotherapy services. It’s been a very busy summer holiday with lots of lovely feedback. I would like to thank everyone for their patience, especially for being so flexible with limited appointment slots. It really has been a pleasure getting to know you all and offer support - particularly through such uncertain times.

I am so excited to be expanding Specialised Physiotherapy and I am looking for Admin support for up to 8 hours per week. Flexible working but at least 4 of these to be office based. Self employed basis. Must be a confident and compassionate communicator, well organised, with initiative and good writing skills. Previous admin or healthcare experience is desirable. If interested please email bookings@SpecialisedPhysiotherapy.com

Did you breeze through pregnancy or was it a hard slog for you⁉️

I know i found it really hard! Morning ...or “all day” sickness and it didn't settle till the last few weeks for me 🤢

For many people, depsite the total magic that pregnancy brings, there can be:⠀

👉🏼Morning Sickness or Hyperemesis

👉🏼Pelvic Girdle Pain

👉🏼Carpel Tunnel Syndrome

👉🏼Constipation

👉🏼Hemorrhoids or Piles

👉🏼Varacous Veins

👉🏼Fluid retention

👉🏼Indigestion

👉🏼Insomnia

⠀
Sometimes, it's helpful to know you're not alone and not the only one suffering. So, if you feel you can, please do share below your experience (good and bad) during pregnancy and anything you found particular useful to help with your symptoms 💗⠀

" My husband contacted Gemma after I was sobbing in pain from SPD at 34 weeks pregnant. Gemma fitted me in very quickly. She was friendly, caring, empathetic and knowledgeable. She listened and treated me holistically. I came away from the session feeling much more positive with further exercises to help. Thank you x "

Even though things are a little different at the mo, please don't suffer in silence. There are things we can do to make you more comfortable during your pregnancy.

Lovely to been shortlisted as a finalist for the 2020 Peterborough Small Business Awards ! 🎉💙👍🏼 really was such a surprise !

Mostly looking forward to the awards come October - a night child free with lots of other amazing local business owners ... however the thought of socialising at the moment really does feel alien right now doesn’t it?!?

Sending so much love to everyone ! Hope you are all holding up 🙂 ###x

Does anyone else feel like they're settling into things? Like this is how things are meant to be right now?

I have definitely become more accepting of the situation we find ourselves in and embracing the positives 💖

I am particularly appreciating this extra time I am getting to spend with my eldest, Isla, who started school last year.

What positives are you taking from all of this?

A T R O P H Y //

There are two times in a woman’s life when the tissues down “there” can become particularly sore.⠀

This happens when the tissues have less oestrogen.⠀

This happens at:

🌸 Menopause

🤱 Postnatally whilst breastfeeding

The tissues become dry, thin and inflamed.

This can cause:

👉🏼Pain

👉🏼Dryness

👉🏼Stinging

👉🏼Urinary symptoms such as leaking

👉🏼Urinary Tract Infections

👉🏼Painful s*x

Please speak up if you have any symptoms! We have lots of hints and tips - but it is always worth trying an organic lubricant which matches our own pH and osmorlarity (we love and always have plenty of samples for you to try.)⠀

Another option is local oestrogen which is available as creams or pessaries. ⠀

Please DM me with any questions🙋🏽‍♀️

A Tubigrip support is a safe and comfortable way to give your growing abdomen support during pregnancy.

It is however unfortunately itchy and rather ugly!!! Despite that I found it really supportive and would wear it in the day once my bump felt heavy.

It is best to use the abdominal support for when you are active and on your feet as it’s not routinely recommended to wear whilst you are asleep.

It can be quite a work out the first few times you put it on and it can feel quite tight - but I promise it does get easier. The fabric does also begin to stretch after a few wears – I tend to compare it to putting on a new pair of tights or leggings!
