Dear Members,

The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy’s Charitable Trust, which funded physiotherapy research projects has recently closed. The CSP is taking this opportunity to explore the strengthening of research as one of our pillars of practice and developing the profession’s research capacity.

The CSP have commissioned insight research from Oxford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Universities of Hertfordshire and Oxford. The aim being to listen to members and develop recommendations to support physiotherapy researchers, funding and evidence-based practice.

This project will map out the current and future research needs across the CSP membership, consider potential funding pathways and models, and ultimately develop recommendations to guide the CSP in supporting physiotherapy research and researchers.

Members are encouraged to join the upcoming webinars:

Income Tax is changing for physios. Are you ready?
If you’re a self-employed physiotherapist using acupuncture, this matters.

From April 2026, Making Tax Digital for Income Tax is set to change how you report your income.
If you earn over £50,000 a year:
👉You’ll need digital records (no more paper + spreadsheets alone)
👉You’ll submit updates every quarter
👉You’ll use HMRC-approved software

This isn’t just admin - it’s a shift in how you run your clinic.
👉 No more ‘once-a-year tax return’ mindset
👉 Ongoing visibility of your business, all year round
If you’re running acupuncture alongside physio treatments, now’s the time to get organised.

Start simple:
✔ Track everything digitally
✔ Know your numbers early
✔ Speak to your accountant
Guidance is evolving, so keep an eye on GOV.UK or check with a tax adviser.
