Suppressing unhelpful emotions can be used as a defence to protect on a short term basis but when they are buried deep they can rumbled like a volcano. One day in the future they may erupt what happens then …

Just genuine care, empathy and non judgement”.

This needs to change. It’s not good enough.

We are in the midst of a mental health crisis.

It’s four years since the NHS developed waiting time targets for mental health emergencies – but they’ve never been introduced because of lack of government support. People are struggling and when they do get support, they still have to wait tens, in some cases hundreds of hours before being seen.
It’s not good enough.

We know this isn’t an isolated experience. One of our media volunteers, Emma, endured a 3-and-a-half-day wait in A&E while in mental health crisis.

Emma says: “At the 87 hour wait, it was 11 hours before I was even given a bed and put on a gurney, and then moved into a cubicle. The most recent time I was in A&E I was in the corridor for 24 hours and I was on 1:1 watch with a nurse. She managed to find me a beanbag to sit on. I was literally lying on the floor curled up with people walking past me, as I was so exhausted and it was the closest I could get to comfort.”

The government must back maximum waiting times for mental health emergencies to end long waits in A&E.

When will they listen?
