Helping Young Athletes Return Stronger, Smarter, and Safer 🧠💪⚽

Last week’s training focused on returning to sport the right way—with injury prevention, confidence, and long-term development at the core.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be building on this with strategies from the latest evidence-based practice and recent upskilling in return-to-play rehab. Supporting young athletes not just through recovery, but through resilience-building, movement quality, and sport-specific readiness.

Did you know children that grow more than 7cm a year are more at risk of injury!?

This is due to increased bone length, reduced flexibility, traction of muscles, reduced bone density and loss of co-ordination.

Growth occurs from the foot to the trunk and peaks at 11-12 years in girls and 13-14 years in boys.

This is something we have to be aware of when assessing paediatric patients in the clinic to understand how and why the injury may have occurred.

If your child is struggling with an injury why not book them in for an assessment at VCF to understand the cause of the injury, receive treatment, rehabilitation and advice regarding return to sport.

Following on from the course Becci completed for female pelvic health we discussed the topic of pelvic floor dysfunction.

Pelvic floor dysfunction can occur due to the inability to correctly relax the muscles of your pelvic floor. These muscles are involved in urination and bowel movements.

Symptoms may include urinary or bowel leakage, increased frequency to urinate, and constipation. Both men and women may experience these symptoms.

Did you know physiotherapy and exercises can help re-train these muscles to reduce the symptoms you may be experiencing!?

Sometimes these small changes can make a really big difference to peoples lives!

Do you have Diastasis Recti?

This is a condition where the linea alba (the connective tissues) of the abdominal muscles widens. When contracting the abdominals muscles doming can often be observed.

This condition is common in women that have just given birth or who have had a c-section. Alternative you may experience symptoms while you are pregnant.

Some symptoms may include doming of the abdomen, abdominal pain, lower back pain and incontinence.

At VCF physiotherapy we would assess you to determine the best course of treatment going forwards including manual therapy. We can also prescribe exercises to improve the co-contraction of the abdominal muscles and reduce the doming effect that you may be experiencing and any other related symptoms to the condition.

To book in for an assessment please call us on 01733 331212 or on our work mobile 07976 567686 📞 😀
